To put wall panelling in my new build?

Well, not new but about 25 years old.

I love Victorian houses and I’d really like to bring a bit of that style to my house - wall panelling in the living room - half wall only. I’ve done it in the bathroom and I love it, DH says it will look tacky in the living room and will make the room look smaller?

Hell no. DH is right

I wouldn’t
but more to the point you should agree decide between you

McCartneyOnTheHeath · 22/05/2025 12:42

Nope. Panelling is already dated.

I think it would look nice, my sister has done it in her living room in her 70s house and it goes with her more old style/traditional decor. Obviously you have to come to a compromise with your DH though as he lives there too!

Its great in a period property but as a trend, it's come and gone.

Sorry no, I live on a new build estate and a few people have done it and it looks awful. Toilets are ok but other rooms it looks weird and out of place

DeSoleil · 22/05/2025 17:34

Faux panelling is just downright nasty.

phoenixrosehere · 22/05/2025 17:58

Depends on the type of panelling, whole room or one wall, etc.

Bit silly to assume it will be awful without actually seeing it or your plan for the room you’re speaking of.

@Dreco

New build ceiling height is typically less than 2.44m (8ft) so may impact your decision?

So many have stuck it on with adhesive but finding it takes down half the wall when removing it!
