To think that Grazia magazine is sh*t

Sorry, v trivial rant on the way...

Honestly, maybe I'm getting old, but I have to rant about Grazia. I subscribed to it last year and am now soooo fed up with seeing with Kate Moss, Angelina Jolie or Jennifer Aniston on the cover that I want to puke. And it's full of complete and utter drivel and what are quite clearly lies about our celebrity friends. And they keep sending it to me even though I cancelled my subscription 3 months ago. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP IT! Think I will now put it straight in the bin when it comes in but I can't help opening it in case I see some nice shoes.

Grump grump grump.

Am off to subscribe to Good Housekeeping now. Am clearly an old fart. Maybe it's the pregnancy making me bonkers.

I agree - it's rubbish. I used to get New Woman, but when that closed they substitued Grazia. I've had two calls asking why I haven't renewed my subscription. As if

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/05/2008 13:00

What?!

No, I love Grazia. I buy Eve and Elle but really do need weekly fixes of magazines. Heat magazine is a load of rubbish now (or I am too old), and what else is there which is printed weekly that is worth reading? Woman's Own? Bella fgs?

I like the high street fashion in Grazia, plus the interiors.

TsarChasm · 21/05/2008 13:02

There comes a point in every woman's life when it's time for............... Good Housekeeping

grazia is just empty crap for the empty-headed who fawn over celebrity due to looks rather abilities and care about what kind of button is in fashion - am surprised to see any intelligent person pick it up

Guitar - of course it's empty crap, but it is good empty crap.

Squack · 21/05/2008 13:06

If you want fashion buy vogue.

if you want gawp at celebs buy the gossipy rubbish.

Squack · 21/05/2008 13:08

I do occasionally glance at good housekeeping on the shelf but haven't yet picked it up.

I'm on green parent atm, which is also on the turn.

maybe I need to accept my age and pick up GH

but what if it's good? what if I want to buy it again? is it a slippery slope to mrs beeton-dom?

annoyingdevil · 21/05/2008 13:09

Agree, a pile of crap. Would rather read the DM than any woman's magazine

BoysAreLikeDogs · 21/05/2008 13:11

Not one of you read cosmo

Nor me

TsarChasm · 21/05/2008 13:11

Then it's just a short hop over to listening to radio 4 and the transformation is complete.

midnightexpress · 21/05/2008 13:12

Oh Grazia is dreadful. I particularly loathe the way they their sleb stories: 'Oh rumour has it that Blah is anorexic/getting divorced/a junkie/a member of somecultorother who eats her toast with a knife and fork'. And then by the end of the article they've more or less told us that it's not actually true. Drivel, but with nice shoes.

wasabipeanut · 21/05/2008 13:13

Grazia and its ilk are vacuous crap. I once threw a copy out of a friends windown because she was pointing at pictures of Martine Macutcheon saying "look how slim she looks, she used to be huge, I'm a whale etc." (I would like to point out that I did retrieve it and place in recycling )

My self image improved a lot when I stopped buying magazines ages ago.

Squack · 21/05/2008 13:16

I already listened to Radio2 in the car for Stuart and Mark, then I accidently found Radio4 and found the debate rather interesting so I've been known to switch over when I'm in the car on my own.

I heart stuart maconie

jojosmaman · 21/05/2008 13:25

I enjoy grazia but agree totally about the front cover thing, when i see Aniston or Jolie I just don't want to know. But they are fashion forward so good to keep up and Look is also a good one for fashion finds. I also get Elle Deco but am finding this more and more dull

I occasionally get Elle or Vogue but instantly regret it when I am 15 pages in and have not read a single article as I am still flicking through the adverts!

Get hand me down Red, Eve, Easy Living which are all quite good.

ontheup · 21/05/2008 21:04

American Vogue is good if a little 'unworldly' ie NOONE LIVES LIKE THAT DO THEY???? but thats why i like it

pointydog · 21/05/2008 21:21

Any mag that focuses heavily on celebs is pretty shit. I thought women's magazines only existed to be entertaining shit.

Bimblin · 21/05/2008 21:23

Maybe for more stimulating material read miseryofpoorpeople Take A Break...not

I hate Red, its just lists of things to buy, along the lines of if you only buy one thing this month make it a #1000 coat from Marc Jacobs. Yeah right.

I tried to make it my ny resolution to stop reading all these but faltered and got Closer and Heat this week, and felt crap.

Good Housekeeping I read at my mum's and I'm getting into it

ontheup · 22/05/2008 07:47

I bought Country Living this weekend in my defense we were on teh way home from a long weekend by the sea and I was feeling nostalgic....

duchesse · 22/05/2008 08:02

They're all shit- they charge you to buy a load of advertising. Read them at the dentists'. Even my Country Smallholding is full of adverts, but at least they're not for things like cosmetic surgery.

SilentTerror · 22/05/2008 11:54

Woman and Home I tell you!
Inspiring stories, more classic fashion but still fashion, proof there ids life after a certain age

cyteen · 22/05/2008 12:12

Women's magazines are all shite. I occasionally buy Glamour when I need putting back in touch with the world of clothes, and it makes me feel dirty.

Roobie · 22/05/2008 12:18

I can't bear any of the glossy wimmins' mags - all full of adverts and absolute shite. You can get enough info about fashion and makeup from the Sunday supplements.

Pinkjenny · 22/05/2008 12:22

I am so fed up with Heat - one week is all celebs are too thin shocker, then all celebs are too fat shocker, then celebs embrace their curves.

Curves? Kelly Brook? Really?

I read She, Glamour, Red, Eve and In-Style.

Well, I say read, but mainly they just pile up on the magazine rack.

Nbg · 22/05/2008 12:28

I think the only decent one atm is Red.

My mum wrote to Grazia to complain about a bit they did about Jewellery.
They used all different types of dead fish and then displayed the jewellery on it.

She was most upset by it and they never replied.
