Chemically castrating sex offenders

Irritateddaily · 22/05/2025 10:10

Just seen this news article www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cql22xwg62vo on BBc news regarding the current trial on voluntary chemical castration for violent criminals. Some unanswered questions - is early release guaranteed if they agree to this ?

I haven't looked into this further yet, but thought it was quite interesting.

Aibu to think chemical castration for early release or violent criminals isn't going to ensure no repeat offences ? - we know that a lot of violent sexual crimes are done to feel power/ in control not always inherently sexual satisfaction so is this going to stop repeat offences?

Followed by cutting off the hands of someone convicted of theft . . .

What a stupid policy. If we had a proper police force and a working prison system we wouldn't need these stupid ideas.

Do you genuinely believe sa and rape would stop if we had these 2 things?

Nope.

And obviously when they get the wrong man, an offender gets a free pass.

Still, it's what I would suggest if I had shares in the pharmaceuticals industry and a proven country of gullible idiots.

I would like to see less women in prison for petty crimes.

Why sex offenders? I'm sure there are other crimes that could free up space and dealt with differently.

It feels like a stunt and from a supposedly left wing government. Bizarre.

Sex offenders are the only group of custodians with their own prisons specifically for their crime

you don’t have Stand alone prisons for drug dealers or burglars

put simply imo it’s money.

we have several prisons in this country dedicated to only sex offenders…go figure!

They need chopping off full stop to stop them terrorising women again!

It’s part of a report by David Gauk who was a Tory MP. I think Starmer is trying to be pragmatic about solutions rather than sticking to policies that are deemed ideologically acceptable to the left wing.
They’re also planning to build more prisons, until of course the nimbys start to protest.

If its voluntary I can't see a huge take up.

My preference would be for mandatory MECHANICAL castration at time of sentence.

And maybe we should cut the hands off of thieves. And stone adulterous women... Where does it end?

Why only women?

Why only women?

Good question. Because women are often sentenced for petty offences for short sentences which has major impact on their lives and does nothing to address the complex issues that lead them there.

I am a feminist and I am interested in women's issues.

I just googled this to find a source for what I know but can't remember exactly where I've read or heard about it.

https://womeninprison.org.uk/news/women-in-prison-respond-to-government-announcement-of-sentencing-review#:~:text=%E2%80%9CThe%20Sentencing%20Review%20marks%20a,less%20(Prison%20Reform%20Trust).

"Sonya Ruparel, CEO at Women in Prison, responded to the announcement:

“The Sentencing Review marks a pivotal moment and significant opportunity to transform the way women are treated by the justice system.

For too long, women have been disproportionately affected by short sentences, with 53% of women in prison in 2022 serving sentences of six months or less (Prison Reform Trust).

This approach has failed to address the root causes of women’s offending, which are overwhelmingly linked to inequality – from poverty and mental health issues to experiences of domestic abuse.

These sentences punish women for their circumstances and a few weeks in prison can lead to the loss of housing, employment, and even their children, making it so much harder for women to rebuild their lives."

A single bullet is much cheaper

Menopausalmum43 · 24/05/2025 11:47

Rape and sexual assault are not about arousal they are about dominance. Castration doesn't stop abuse possibly make the situation worse due to revenge etc. What we really need is chopping testicle off, gouging out eyeballs so they can't see and chopping off hands so they can't touch and then filling their ears with expandable foam so they can't hear.

Only if you're right.
