To think that when jobs are scarce, workplace camaraderie disappears?

I’ve noticed that in workplaces where jobs are hard to come by - whether due to economic downturns, industry decline or just a super competitive field - people seem far less friendly. Instead of teamwork and support, there’s more backstabbing, secrecy and an “every person for themselves” attitude. It’s like the fear of losing their position makes people unwilling to help others or even actively sabotage colleagues.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is it just human nature to become more cutthroat when opportunities are limited or do some industries manage to maintain camaraderie even under pressure?

Hardly surprising though - likely people are super stressed and worried for themselves & how they’ll pay their bills etc, so will be much more selfish in their own behaviours for self-preservation.
