Can you get food poisoning from eating chicken nuggets!?

I’m currently in hospital with DS whilst he has a round of chemotherapy. He’s off his food and he left a plate of chicken nuggets and chips from lunchtime on the side. DH and DS1 came to visit after work/nursery at 6pm and DH starts feeding DS1 the chicken nuggets which have been sitting out for 6 hours.

We had a little debate at the time with me saying DS1 will be sick if he eats those and DH saying he’ll be fine but I left it as DH is responsible for looking after DS1 at home tonight. Fast forward to half an hour ago (11pm) and DH calls me to say DS1 has been sick everywhere!

This could be a coincidence but do you think the sickness could have been caused by the chicken nuggets!?

YABU - chicken nuggets can’t cause food poisoning

Just spoken to DH and DS1 was up another 3 times vomiting in the night but the rest of us have been ok. Whatever it is DS1 can’t go to nursery so DH has to take the day off work to look after him. Hopefully lesson learnt.

Absolutely

Me, DD and DH were all flying from South Aus to Queensland, got mcdonalds at the airport
He got a cheeseburger
I got a chicken burger and DD got nuggets
Only thing that day for me and DD had toast in morning

Me and DD barely made it off the plane before we were sick as dogs for the next 48 hours - the sickest we both been in many, many years
DH was fine

It depends on the chemo and immune system
I had campylobacter from chicken but I’m also neutropenic so if my count is really low I don’t eat fresh fruit or veg or salad, it all has to be cooked
chips are very.. safe, bacteria wise. Salad not so much

^ This. I also have cancer and the hospital provide a list of foods that you can and can't have. It's less to do with nutrition and more to do with hygiene risk as chemo increases your risk of infection.

I'd be a little more concerned, @IEatPastaWithASpoon that your husband (the child's father?) simply does not understand this very basic hygiene risk that comes with someone during cancer treatment.

I'm also concerned that the hospital aren't clearing away dirty plates and uneaten food! But, as you say, he couldn't reach it anyway, so the issue remains your husband's basic lack of food hygiene knowledge.

Sorry, I'm annoyed for you OP!

I hope your boy continues to improve.
