To think this is not a Day Doing Nothing?

  • framed a pic
  • ceiling dusted for cobwebs
  • made a hayuuuge pie
  • fixed a fuse
  • unblocked sink
  • watered garden

and all the usual washin n hooverin schtick.

I keep trying to have a day off. Is this as close as I get? Or AIBU and lazy.

Not nothing but also not stuff you can all get done on a work day. Sounds nice tbh.

BallerinaRadio · 19/05/2025 22:14

So you think is or isn't a day doing nothing? It can be read both ways

giddyauntie123 · 19/05/2025 22:16

I'd be pleased with that if I was you, but no it's not a day off.
A day off is slumping on the sofa with netflix, or the beach with a book

Mymanyellow · 19/05/2025 22:16

Yeah my day off today. I’ve done two loads of washing, hoovered polished both bedrooms, cleaned bathroom, cleaned the kitchen including the fridge, hoovered all downstairs, cut the grass made dinner for three. Back to work tomorrow for a rest.

Candlesandmatches · 19/05/2025 22:18

A day off: go for a nice walk, eat what you want for lunch or get a meal deal or go out, have a little nap, watch a movie or read a book. Wander round nice shops. If you like that. No chores or home jobs whatsoever. Maybe you need to be out the house to have a day off? So a spa or the library to read or a local garden or stately home. You could take a blanket and cushion and a book or podcast. Or just stare at the clouds.

onetrickrockingpony · 19/05/2025 22:22

You probably didn’t need to hoover. The rest of it I would consider pottering chores if completed in a calm empty house with a podcast or the radio on. I would probably add in getting myself a nice coffee, maybe do an exercise class and reading a book for an hour and that would be a lovely day off. But I’m one of those annoying people who only appreciates sitting down after having earned it by doing a load of stuff first.

A day off from what, specifically? Unless you manage to spend the day unconscious there's no such thing as doing nothing, so that's not a reasonable goal. Start by narrowing down what you're wanting a break from and why, and then identify what's stopping you from achieving that.

PyongyangKipperbang · 19/05/2025 23:34

Its a Pottering day.

Doing stuff that could do with doing, but no one will die if it isnt done.

Its not hard work, and its usually done in between lots of cups of coffee and doom scrolling.

And actually doing nothing is very very boring! When I was recovering from a spinal procedure I could physically do almost nothing. Technically I could read but couldnt hold the book/kindle without dropping it on my face, and couldnt see a TV at the angle I was at. All I had was audio books and they get old fast when there is no alternative. I was so bored I would have ripped your arm off for the chance for a wee potter!

babyproblems · 19/05/2025 23:37

For me it’s a bit of a day off. They’re ‘extra’ jobs mostly I’d say. I suppose it depends on how busy you naturally like to be. I’ve never ever slumped on the sofa watching Netflix all day. That’s my idea of pure hell!!!

HmmNot · 19/05/2025 23:38

Sounds like a normal day off, pottering around, my favourite sort. I don’t think a day literally doing nothing would be much fun.

Hoohaz · 19/05/2025 23:43

I think unless you have a block of time (ie several days) booked off, you aren't going to achieve a day of doing nothing. Assuming you are an adult, there is always going to be something that needs doing. At the very least, you need to feed yourself!

Chocolate85 · 19/05/2025 23:48

What you’ve described is a couple of hours worth so yes I’d consider it a day off on the basis that on a typical day you would probably do that plus a day of work.

whynotmereally · 20/05/2025 03:45

It’s a pottering day. As a teen I would have viewed it as excessively busy. Now I’d view it as an easy day.

Rainbowqueeen · 20/05/2025 04:46

The baking of the pie and the picture framing sound like nice hobbies. Are they? Or are they things that you had to do and you got no pleasure out of them?

It's definitely not a day off overall

Koalafan · 20/05/2025 04:51

Do many adults actually get a day where they do absolutely nothing though, unless ill or perhaps on a catered holiday?

I
Unblocking a sink ? You have low standards.

ThomasShelbysfagend · 20/05/2025 05:19

Sounds very productive actually!

Had to laugh at my mils “busy day” the other day.
She was asked to do something by bil but was very put out because she was far too busy that day, she had to go to the post office & take her dog for a walk! Love that kind of busy.

OP, tell us about your pie, what was it and just how mahoosive was it and was it utterly delish? (Inspiration for tonight’s tea)

Wrexy · 20/05/2025 09:17

Following with interest, firstly for the pie information but also to see what other people’s thought are.

brunettemic · 20/05/2025 09:25

That’s what, an hour or maybe two worth of low effort tasks? So yeah, pretty much a day doing nothing if that’s all you did.
