My DD hormones around her periods are so bad. I have been trying to talk to her but she asked me to leave her room. She is snappy, tearful and it’s making me feel sad because I not sure how to help her to feel better. She is only 11 she was in a great mood yesterday I have asked about school apparently it’s been fine. Im not in the greatest mood myself because I have injured my shoulder and the pain is making me feel meh but I have tried not to be moody around her. Do I leave her alone? Keep trying to talk to her. I find this part hard because I am such a soft shit it really bothers me seeing her unhappy.

Give her space.

MyCyanReader · 19/05/2025 16:53

I'm a Y7 form tutor and deal with a lot of this.

I'd talk to her about it after her period! Give her some space and take her a bar of chocolate!

When she's not grumpy then I would perhaps suggest a visit to a GP. The pill can help with the mood swings.

Leave alone and push tasty snacks under the door.

Is she currently in the throes of it? Probably best left to discuss when she's not.

I did make an appointment and she was happy to go but then she wouldn’t attend on the day and I couldn’t drag her. Im
popping to the shop soon will get her a pot of ice cream that might help.

Yes totally in the throes she hates her hair she only had it cut last week and loved it. She doesn’t know what’s wrong but said I am not helping😕

She won't be receptive to help or to clam discussion when she's in the thick of it. Hormones will be clouding her.

No she is definitely not receptive.

I said it will be just hormones because of your period and she said I don’t want to talk about THAT. I think she is the only girl in her class and that really bothers her.

I was always unsociable at period time and absolutely hated parents somehow invading my space.
All I wanted : food at intervals , supply of pads and painkillers, and a good book.
The funny thing is that my DD is quite the opposite. She always wants my company and reassurance which is so strange for me

It’s hard to navigate it, I am also perimenopause and there’s only two of us so the house is like one giant hormone. I can remember I got horrendous craps at that age but cannot remember how I felt.x

This all sounds very normal to me. She's full of hormonal angst, she's knackered after a day at school, she feels like shit and she wants to be left alone. You're not helping by trying to push her to talk when she doesn't want to. I know you mean well, but honestly, just leave her be.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 19/05/2025 17:32

Might be worth her taking super vitamin B complex. I use Linden's, available on ebay.
