To let childcare change toddler?

rushedround · 19/05/2025 07:09

Rushing around in the morning and smelled a suspicious whiff. Nursery about ten minutes away.

Is it reasonable just to let her be changed there? Or would you have made yourself a bit later and changed her?

Change her before you leave x

BallerinaRadio · 19/05/2025 07:11

I think you know the answer to this

Changepassword · 19/05/2025 07:11

Definitely changed her, it takes 2 minutes.
I'm guessing to make the 10 minute journey she'd be either sat in a car seat or pushchair, can't imagine that would be very pleasant.

itispersonal · 19/05/2025 07:11

Would you like to sit in your poo for 10 minutes! Change them and be late

ThatIsABigSon · 19/05/2025 07:12

You change her before you leave.

thehistorymum · 19/05/2025 07:13

Change before you go

Zanatdy · 19/05/2025 07:14

It takes 2 mins, not nice to have her in that nappy until you get to nursery.

WhenWhere · 19/05/2025 07:14

It's awful that you need to ask.

ChocolatesAndRainbows · 19/05/2025 07:15

No change your child, trust me I did nursery years ago before becoming a nanny and we used to heavily judge any parent who left a child in a festering nappy for us to change. Would you want to sit in a car or pushchair in a full smelly nappy?

justkeepswimingswiming · 19/05/2025 07:16

You had time to type on here yet not change a nappy? Come on op that’s borderline neglectful.

Sirzy · 19/05/2025 07:19

Imagine the uproar if a nursery said “we didn’t change them because we knew you would be arriving soon”

Poo on your watch you sort!

MalcolmMoo · 19/05/2025 07:47

I always change her, I’d never dream of dropping her off with a dirty nappy.

Last week was literally about to step out the door with the pram to walk to nursery and realised she’d done a poo in the 30 seconds she’d been in the pram. She was straight out and quick change by the back door, back in pram and off to nursery.

Literally took seconds.

ButteredRadishes · 19/05/2025 07:49

If she'd pooped on the way to nursery, and you realised at the door... That's one thing.

But knowingly leaving her in a poo nappy when you have a chance to change her... is neglect.

Hercisback1 · 19/05/2025 07:50

Change her if you're still home.

What would have been reasonable is to change her nappy instead of taking the same amount of time to get your phone, load Mumsnet and write a post about it.

Would have taken the same amount of time!

sesquipedalian · 19/05/2025 07:51

OP, do you honestly even need to ask the question?

Pricelessadvice · 19/05/2025 07:52

Rather than post on here, how about change the poor child?

ButteredRadishes · 19/05/2025 07:53

Ugh... maybe it's one of those pervs that wants stories 🤢

No other posting history.

Sahara123 · 19/05/2025 08:32

In the time it’s taken you to post you could have pretty much changed her ?

jajajajajaja · 19/05/2025 08:43

Change her! I can’t believe you would even consider dropping her off without changing her.

Strawbewwy · 19/05/2025 08:51

I personally wouldn't change a toddler just for doing a poop in their nappy. You may well find the new one will repeat the same behaviour.

Depending on the age of the toddler though, you may consider potty training instead. Although this may also lead to delays in the future as they decide it is time to go to the loo just as it is time to leave the house.

Bearbookagainandagain · 19/05/2025 08:51

I would be late and change them.

It's a pain, particularly when both our toddlers decide the best time to have a poo is the minute i ask them to put their shoes on! It used to be every other day for a few months, it delayed us at least 10 min per child.

I'm lucky that we have some flex on drop off times now with the childminder, and I have spare time between drop off and my regular train.
If it was a strict drop off time (e.g. my son's nursery school only has a 5 min window), or if I had to catch my train, then I'm not sure what I'd do to be honest.

HotHoney · 19/05/2025 08:52

Honestly. Have a little think here OP.

What? You’d leave them with a shitty arse just in case they did it again? That’s incredibly lazy parenting.

You're lying for a reaction here surely to God?
