Trying to find a nursery for my little one

Question2022 · 17/05/2025 12:29

So I've been trying to find a Nursery for my 3 year old. And every Nursery I speak to they sound keen for me to attend and look around to register but as soon as I attend I don't seem to hear anything back from them.
At the moment I am entitled to the 15 hours free childcare.
They just waste my time, these are private nurseries BTW I think they discriminate against me

Are you contacting them and not hearing back? Or are you just waiting to hear from them after viewing?

BootballJoy · 17/05/2025 15:25

After looking round nurseries and deciding which you want, your next step is to contact them telling them you would like a place. If you don't do that after your viewing they'll assume you aren't interested.

Have you told the nurseries you visit that you want your child to attend there? Have you registered them?

LIZS · 17/05/2025 15:46

How are you leaving it when you visit? Normally you would confirm you want a place first, discuss days/sessions and arrange dates for settling in and to start. Tbh it is quite late for a September start and some settings have to limit 15 hour places to allow for full time children.

Once you have looked around, you need to ring to confirm you would like a place at the nursery. They will not chase you (as many nurseries have waiting lists so don't need to follow up people they don't hear from and just assume they chose another setting).

Nurseries won't chase you up if what you are looking for is an entirely free place, where you use only the free hours and aren't going to add paid extra hours to make up for the shortfall in the government funding. They lose money on people who are trying to only use funded hours as free childcare so given most settings are oversubscribed, you aren't likely to be their ideal choice.

I'm a provider, I show people around then they go home and ring me if they want the space. I don't chase them!
