I'm looking for reassurance and opinion please. My other half of 7 years and one child has just turned around and said that he is happy I look like a bimbo but I'm intelligent.
This has made me boil for so many reasons
I don't look like a "bimbo", I'm actually really insecure about my appearance tbh since having our baby and have started wearing "mum clothes".
Why is looking like a bimbo a compliment?
What is with the word bimbo and why is he assuming they are not intelligent?
When I questioned him about it he started saying he loves me the way i am but not answering those questions so wtf..am I being gaslit or am I being hormonal and over sensitive?

Bimbo? How old is he? Haven't heard that phrase since I looked like one.

What are Mum clothes ?

I always thought bimbo meant style of dress rather than anything else.

I think he’s trying to say you’re hot and smart in a bit of a crap and clumsy way.

This is not a fucking compliment. Raise your bar.

He is a dick for using the word bimbo, it isn’t “crap and clumsy 🙄” it is misogynistic.

WonderingWanda · 18/05/2025 13:01

Bimbo really isn't a very complimentary term by any stretch of the imagination and its incredibly misogynistic to presume that attractive women are stupid. I would make it very clear how distasteful it was. Does he have other judgemental views about women?

spoonbillstretford · 18/05/2025 13:03

Did he mean to be misogynistic?

Spiderwomann · 18/05/2025 13:04

A lot of people can't comprehend that women who are attractive and take pride in their appearance can also be intelligent (both other women and men, in fact often women are more judgemental towards other women). I do agree he was probably attempting to be complimentary but definitely needs to work on that...

Moveoverdarlin · 18/05/2025 13:04

I think it’s a compliment. You look attractive and girly but you’re super clever too. If my DH said this I’d totally get it.

MaisieMouse87 · 18/05/2025 13:12

I think he meant it as a compliment but not realised it might be perceived as misogynistic. You're physically attractive but have the brains and wit to keep people interested. I used to be a model and went on to run a successful clothing business. I've been told "You're not as stupid as you look".

People definitely assumed I was not very intelligent when I was younger. Just being female and young was enough at times. Both men and women.

What I liked about DH was that he clearly did not have that assumption and never underestimated me from the start.

At work in my 20s some of the more senior staff definitely thought of me differently after we did a work quiz. Our team won, largely due to the fact I could answer nearly all of the questions on my own, whether they were high or low brow. Not that this demonstrates intelligence, just a good memory and general knowledge if anything. But it was fun blowing Oxbridge and private school types out of the water coming from a comprehensive school, FE college and new university.

Think saying u attractive but intelligent. Clumsy. It seems many people think women can't be bothered.

God I’m sick of the ‘raise your bar’ brigade.

Yeah, I think it was intended as a compliment, just some guys struggle a bit to find the right words. 😊
