Worrying!!

Does anyone else struggle with constantly worrying about health? I'm always anxious about my children or family getting ill. It's starting to affect my ability to get excited about anything and I'm avoiding social situations more. I don't want this to get worse and affect my kids lives. I'm so protective and scared of something affecting our plans etc. We have a holiday booked in a few weeks and I can't even get excited for it. I've definitely got worse since I've had kids (covid times!) and I may be a bit affected by the pandemic. Any help on how to snap out of this constant loop of worry??? TIA

Oh hun this level of worry sounds a lot, I totally get where it comes from but if it’s stopping you from enjoying things then maybe you need to consider some therapy for it, I think CBT may help to change the way you think about things I’m unsure maybe reach out to the GP! Good luck ☺️

Anti-anxiety meds?

My family member is terminally ill and betablockers are helping me reduce the panic attacks.

I did wonder about this. I just feel like I'm constantly expecting the worst case scenario. I will be frustrated that I have spent time worrying if everything turns out fine.
What if someone gets ill from the flight, what if someone gets food poisoning on holiday, what if someone ends up. In hospital. I feel like I need to have back up plans all in place to prepare me. I sound crazy don't I 🙈 All these things have happened to others and I am so scared of the worst case.

You don’t sound crazy at all you sound like your worries are reasonable based on evidences and like you care! They are just a bit much and starting to affect your life. The problem these days is due to social media and the ease of getting the news and constant updates is we see EVERYONES bad experiences and issues way more than we used to so it proportionally seems like these things happen to everyone but they don’t, anxiety is much highly these days I think.

Yes I’m currently going through nhs talking therapy for the exact same thing. It’s really helping me to cope - I highly recommend. Feel free to Pm.

You have a classic case of HC (hyper chondria).

I'm not a doc but hopefully the therapy should help. Also maybe try to identify the triggers that set you off e.g. TV, times of the day, etc etc so perhaps you'll be better able to cope with them.
Get off the Internet - do not look up Dr Google for say 1 week to start, then only allow yourself 1 hour on one particular day of the week thereafter.
(Practically all Internet health studies & advice are sponsored by some drug or food company or other vested interest. Be aware of that).

With your newly freed up time go out for a nice walk in the sunshine, or other exercise, preferably with good company & do your upmost to boost your mood & stay positive. Good luck OP !!

I was going to ask whst you think the root cause is, but there it is:

‘All these things have happened to others and I am so scared of the worst case.’

These people will be vastly out numbered by those who have had incident-free holidays.

It’s a common anxiety, OP. You need therapy and mediation if it’s getting this difficult. I think it’s unreasonable to think you can ‘snap out of it’ .
