To wonder if a morning walk after my commute defeats the object?

I really want to start walking first thing in the morning, but I live 40/45 minute drive from work.

It’d be ideal to leave earlier to avoid traffic, but also, I work in a really picturesque location so it’d make for a much nicer walk.

I know all of the benefits come from walking first thing in the morning, before anything else.
So would it be less effective if I do a long drive THEN walk?? Will it outweigh all the benefits that come from instant sunlight etc??

Honestly it doesn’t matter, so long as you walk and by fitting it into your lifestyle your MUCH more likely to keep it up.

I have not come across this before but surely walking is better than not doing at all. And walking in lovely surroundings will be so much better for you mentally than in not so nice surroundingsz

I think that sounds great if its what works for you.

I now do an early evening walk either just before or just a after dinner and it's been brilliant.

After sitting in the car for 45 minutes, a walk would certainly be beneficial to stretch your back and reset your mind.

I would want to have somewhere to wash and change before starting work, though.

@helloooooo3 honestly I think you may have been oversold the benefits of a walk first thing.

I am no longer able to drive. But I mostly worked in London anyway and had to get on the tube. Basically over the years I have done a lot of walking. I mean it's good... After a spinal injury, I'm bloody grateful I can walk.

But when it happens, it's really no big deal. If you walk first thing in the morning or later in the morning, I think it's all the same really.

I use a SAD lamp extensively in winter.
