AIBU? Worrying about baby’s stool

AIBU to myself, I suffer with health anxiety- my little boy is 1 and he’s been incredibly uncomfortable all day trying to squeeze a stool out.

about 15 minutes ago, he got so upset in his sleep and the smell of poo was big, we undone his nappy and a hard stool was stuck, so I pulled it out :(

he instantly stopped crying and fell back asleep…

the stool is more pale than usual & it’s ROCK hard… it also had some blood on it ( I’ve attached picture, sorry TMI. )

I am seriously worried about the blood, I instantly think of the horrible C or other issues…

hes recently started to take to weaning after struggling for so long and eating more things like banana, bread, potato, white fish.. along with fruits, but we’ve been trying him on the stodge he never liked before & he’s having a lot of cows milk still, he only moved over to cows milk fully 2 weeks ago, he loves a milk bottle and won’t be happy if we took those away.

anyone else with similar stories? Or words of advice?

If he's struggled to get it out and it was rock hard the most likely explanation for the blood is a small tear from the straining.
If this were my baby I wouldn't be panicking but I would seek to get some medical advice from my GP tomorrow - more for something to help with the constipation than the blood.
Try not to worry although I know that's easier said than done.

I would call gp, my little girl is 1 she has had this on and off a couple of times and they prescribed something to help

I will be calling anyways hopefully they can get some laxatives, just wanted some mums to give me reassuring stories! - I’ve never seen blood on a stool before and he is my 2nd!

Would give him prune juice and ask health visitor for advice rather than GP. Is he getting enough fluid?

Remember how upsetting this was. My son as I imagine alot of young children also suffered with constipation. I would speak with the GP, it's likely the the blood is from a little tear, you little one may need something to prevent infection. GP may prescribe laxatives, but I think that should (if possible) only be a short term option. As others have mentioned prunes work a treat, I just used to buy prunes and blend, make into a drink, mix in yoghurt etc. Once we increased fibre problem was solved. In the meantime, warm baths, belly runs and lots of water, maybe some juice may help.

Ahh see GP & they could prescribe something like movicol, which will help. My DD was prescribed something when younger. I'm sure he'll be fine. Agree also with prunes you can make a prune & pear puree (Google for recipe) that is super helpful if they're constipated.
