Dyson tower fans and similar

AIBU to ask - Are these worth the price? Are there less expensive ones which are still good?

My DH is about to “get out the fan” which oscillates and blows my hair around my face which disturbs my sleep.

Maybe one of these towers fans would be cooling and less blowy? Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

I know I should go on a product thread but I really want some advice quickly. Many thanks and apologies.

I hate fans moving on me at night but DH likes it - we tend to do a desk sized fan fairly low down on his side of the bed so it doesn't reach me. If you get one with a remote, even better as you can turn it off when he's snoring!

Swiftie1878 · 13/05/2025 17:09

I have one. Wouldn’t be without it. Very quiet - perfect for the bedroom.

I brought a Govee version as it links to Alexa as like the ability to turn it on and off by voice. Bit more expensive £66 - has a sleep mode which I find is quiet enough to not disturb sleep. One of my better buys as my bedroom is west facing and absolutely roasting at times when we occasionally get hot days!

We have the Dyson one and paid a lot for it. Has some cleaning filter thing too. But I cannot tell the difference between that and my much cheaper one. It is less noisy but really not worth the price tag.

We have a couple of Dyson fans plus lots of other types and we really don’t rate the Dyson at all . They certainly don’t blow my hair because unless you are sitting right next to them they’re pretty useless . Our best small fan is a Woozoo , and I have a lovely quiet JL pedestal fan and a Shark flex which is also very efficient .

mynameiscalypso · 13/05/2025 17:30

The Dysons are definitely overpriced and rubbish.

TheFairyCaravan · 13/05/2025 17:32

DS2 has got one of these Probreeze fans, It’s really good

Pennyssmartwatch · 13/05/2025 17:34

I have a few am09s (the heater and fan) and I love them. Can sleep with it on without the sound waking me up and it's like a light breeze. I actually sleep better with it on. (I did have to block the light from it though)

Foolsgold74 · 13/05/2025 17:38

Meaco. Setting 1 is a lovely gentle silent breeze and it has a sleep mode too.

GRex · 13/05/2025 17:38

We have dyson and dreo tower fans. Quality difference imperceptible. Dreo was much cheaper though.

Shinyandnew1 · 13/05/2025 17:44

Meaco fans are 10 times better than Dyson.

WorcsGMF · 13/05/2025 17:52

We’ve one that we bought from middle of Lidl last year and it’s fab! I’m going to keep my eyes open for another this year.

wildfellhall · 13/05/2025 19:36

Thank you very much everyone!

We just got the new shark turbo blade and it’s great as it has a night mode!

We have a Dyson tower fan. My DP doesn’t like it, he thinks it’s ineffective. I’ve held the line it is effective (as I was the one who purchased it) but unfortunately I’m secretly inclined to agree. I recently bought this one from JL - https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-circulator-desk-fan-white/p111357728 - and I find it much better (also easier to move around and store).

Meaco are the best.

We have the old style Dyson hot + cool without the filters and almost a decade on they are by far the best fans we've had. Useful that they heat too (doing DIY in the garage in the winter!!) One DC has the newer model with the filter, works from home on calls all day and live it because its both silent and effective.

But a few years ago we installed aircon in the bedroom. The unit is above the head of the bed so blows towards our feet when we are asleep and you can fix it so that it doesn't 'swing' so just points towards one place. It also has night mode so is practically silent. Best money ever spent in my opinion!

On the subject of a fan blowing hair around my face and disturbing me - I would be interested to know whether anyone has gone for a small portable air conditioning unit in preference to a fan? I guess they can be noisy.

I've got this one, being in peri I couldn't get through summer without it.. you can set it to rotate so it doesn't blow on you all the time. I set it for an hour when I go to bed and I fall asleep with it on
