The government need to sort this out

I am a proud primary school teacher with 25yrs+ experience.

I have a specialism in maths, and have been the maths lead in schools of up to 700 pupils.

I have trained colleagues from across my county in maths.

The last time I was a yr6 SATS marker, this scale was not permitted in some answers, as it didn't clarify the maths.

This amount is illogical.

£3456.78p

So why do the government insist on using this notation on p60s, p45s and other documentation? No wonder our country has a problem with basic maths if the government documentation has this plastered all over it.

Light-hearted, but receiving my P60 today and seeing this all over the document irked me.

AIBU: you know what it means. Take a chill pill

I'm with you. The p combined with the decimal point is nonsense

5foot5 · 12/05/2025 23:12

I agree. I am old enough to remember decimalisation happening in 1971 and all the educational and informational programmes that ran then. I can definitely remember people being instructed that, although you put the 'p' after small amounts of less than a pound, eg 75p, you should not include it when using the £ sign. Eg £1.75 NOT £1.75p

These films were put out by the government then so how come government departments do not understand and follow it now?

That is an excellent question @5foot5
