Hi mums need advice my toddler (2 half year old(has vomited there and he complained his head is sore but it’s not the first time he said this he said it the day before and a few times different weeks he was getting sick last month also. Should I take him to the doctor tomorrow I will but should I be worried.

Does he go to preschool or daycare?

Trallers · 12/05/2025 22:28

I wouldnt be worried about a bit of vomiting as its unfortunately juat how it goes with toddlers. Having a headache with a sickness bug is pretty normal but if you're meaning that generally he's been saying he has a headache a lot recently then yes I'd get that checked out. I'd get an eye appointment first than a gp to follow up with as needing glasses is a very common cause of headaches to rule out first.

God, if I took mine every time they threw up and had a headache, I'd have to buy a tent and live there.

If it lasted for more than a week, I'd make a doctors appointment but at that age they catch literally everything possible. They pass that shit around like secret santa.

Take him to put your mind at rest if nothing else. You may have a level of health anxiety with him which would be completely understandable given him being ill when he was so little but it never hurts to ask x

Yes you should take him. Anybody telling you not to is bloody dangerous! They don't know his medical background and nobody here is a doctor (and even if they are they cannot assess and diagnose over Mumsnet). This is happening frequently and needs to be questioned by a medical professional- Not the Google Doctors on here!

Glad you've decided to take him to the GP, OP. You're not overreacting at all. (And don't let the GP fob you off if you still feel something is wrong after going. You know your child and what is normal for them best.) Persistant headaches and vomiting in children needs to be seen by a professional. I hope all works out ok and it's just a standard bug.

Always go with your gut feeling, if you think you should then do it.
Honestly, if I hadn’t trusted my gut on some occasions, things would be a lot different today.

Hope you get answers and that your child feels better soon.

Trust your instinct it doesn’t hurt to go to doctors

luckycat888 · 13/05/2025 21:05

Go with your gut instinct. No harm in getting checked by a GP or even hospital.

WhiteJasmin · 14/05/2025 00:16

Definitely take him to the doctor. Has he had a bump to his head you don't know of? Should probably check under the hair because if there had been a serious bump and he's throwing up you might need to see the doctor sooner.

Also, if he's not responding well to light and/ or stiff neck, take him to the hospital.

Otherwise if there's no temperature, keep him hydrated until your dr appointment.

For kids, you can never be too careful and any good medical professional will support that view.

When my DD2 was a baby she was sick quite often, to the extent it didn't feel like normal bugs. I went to the GP they ruled out anything sinister & put it down to bugs.

As she got older she started to say her head hurt & she'd often be sick afterwards, then feel better after rest, Calpol & 20-30mins. This has gone on for 10yrs.

It's generally when she's too hot / exercising & her headaches are more migraines (though GP said not, but I have migraines & know what she's experiencing is more than a headache).

If she doesn't immediately cool, stop to rest, take painkillers etc then she will be sick.
She drinks plenty of water - fluid diaries done, but it doesn't stop it happening.

It's really hard to know what to think when they are little as it's hard for them to explain. Hope you get some advice from your GP.

On another note, DS1 was also sick all the time (multiple times a day, more catarrh than sick) turned out to be a dairy intolerance.
You could try removing dairy for a couple of days / weeks see if it helps.
DS1 grew out of it by reception (also had asthma & alopecia - all auto immune - grew out of asthma & his hair grew & thickened).

If you are ever worried. Just ring the doctors - at mine I usually get a triage call back and if they are concerned they'll tell me to bring him in. They tell me they are always happy to see him and not to feel like a nuisance as its always better to be on the safe side xxx
