Company employing people as self-employed?

I had an interview for a job and up until today I thought I would be employed by them.
They have informed me that I would have to be self-employed (nothing mentioned in ad).
They stipulated at interview that I would need to have availability Mon-fri every week but I would only be offered work 3 of those days and it would be minimum wage.

Part of the job involves driving and I have a feeling that I will be told that I will need to insure myself on the company vehicle.

If I do get offered the job my spidey-senses are telling me that I should just walk away.

  1. You are being unreasonable- give it a go.
  1. You are NOT being unreasonable- walk away.

Too many variables and funnily enough none of them in your favour.
Companies like this roast employees.

Run!
That’s not self employed.
I know a company who does this and screws their staff (mostly younger people) right over. Staff turn up for work and they tell them to go home and they don’t need them. They offer them a higher day wage (say £10 more a day) to go ‘self-employed’ but set their working days and hours and allow no wiggle room. HMRC have been informed several times but it doesn’t seem to be a priority.
