Is this makeup heavy enough for wedding?

Getting married in Summer

I have quite a specific make up look that I like. Just wondering if you think it is appropriate for wedding day? Will I need more makeup in order to show up for photos?

I’m 29, have clear skin and luckily am considered pretty.

Do I need more makeup?

I always think mumsnetters are very practical and make points I never even think of.

So thanks in advance!

Where whatever you feel right in, there’s no rules. I wore light makeup

CatrionaBalfour · 12/05/2025 20:18

That look is going to date quickly. Go for a timeless look. No foundation, light touch mascara, light touch lipgloss.
You'll look lovely, not overdone and not dated!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 12/05/2025 20:18

Do you makeup the way you intend, take photos and see how you feel
about it, and then decide.

I definitely want foundation on my wedding day!

Ok. Your choice, but I thought you said you had nice skin?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 12/05/2025 20:20

But also remember, it’s about the day, not only about the photos.

Good point

POTC · 12/05/2025 20:20

Plenty of people don't wear any. You need to go with whatever is normal for you otherwise you'll look at photos and cringe at how fake you look

BangFlash · 12/05/2025 20:22

Do it and take pictures from a distance in daylight, and indoors day and evening. I suspect to get the look you are after you may need more.

i personally would go as you do here for wedding and outdoor photos then add more for evening.

DancingNotDrowning · 12/05/2025 20:22

Do a slightly elevated version of what you usually wear to a day time event. Yes in twenty years it will look “dated”, but so will your dress and your flowers and your hair and your venue. That’s how life works.

i know some people prefer to look great in pictures so overdo the make up for the day but I think it’s better to strike a happy medium and look good for the people who are there celebrating with you.

MsNevermore · 12/05/2025 20:22

I think it’s lovely.

But the point is you should wear your makeup however makes you feel your best!

(Only tip I have for a summer wedding is no matter how you have your makeup, invest in a high-quality setting spray so you haven’t sweated it all off by the end of the ceremony!)

It’s clear but not perfect!

This will not photograph well. You need more makeup if you want the photos

Like I say. Your choice. I've never worn foundation because I've always had good skin.

This was my concern. I just don’t like a very heavy make up look.

I appreciate it's the day not just the photo's as pp highlighted. However, the photo's will likely be the most prominent reminder of your day in a few years time. I agree that an elevated daytime look is probably the best aim.

therealtrunchbull · 12/05/2025 20:26

I think it looks perfect actually. This is exactly the make up that I would go for.

It photographs well because it's natural. It's a myth that you need heavy makeup for your wedding.
I had mascara and lipgloss. That's all. The photographs are beautiful.
Anyway. The bride's choice, I'm just giving my opinion.

blubbyblub · 12/05/2025 20:27

The eye makeup is extremely classic. The brows I would go slightly less bold if you wants to look timeless. Not as bold but not thin either. The natural looking foundation is perfect. Use setting spray, something like One Size which won’t change the finish but is budge proof. The lips in the close up picture is more classic

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 12/05/2025 20:27

Then I suppose you need to choose whether you want to look good on the day or good on the photos.

And quite frankly, in five years time you won’t even remember which drawer you put the photos in.

Justgoingforaweeliedown · 12/05/2025 20:28

Hi OP. I don't think you'll need more make up for it to show or last. I wear fairly light make up and don't have a very make-uppy look day to day. Like a PP said, I went for a slightly elevated version of my normal look so felt like me and it came up looking really natural in the photos. Have a trial with your make up artist (if you're having one). Your photographer will make the most of the light and have fantastic equipment so you won't need to go really heavy for it to show.

MidnightScroller · 12/05/2025 20:28

I think the lips are too dark/overglossed - looks too much for a wedding imo. Night out make up for dark sweaty rooms isn’t the same as nice romantic floaty dress type make up. You do you though!

I have very dark, thick brows (1/4 Indian). I get them threaded into a natural arch shape. I chose models with dark brows so I could see the overall effect a bit better .

I think I need to research setting sprays. Thanks!

Are you the lady on the right? That's the nicest makeup of the two so yes go for that x

MrsKateColumbo · 12/05/2025 20:30

Loreal setting spray is brilliant
