SAHM nursery funding advice please!

Hello, I’m hoping others can help me out on this as I’m going around in circles! I’m a SAHM and my DS3 has attended nursery one day a week from 9 months old and we’ve always paid as we don’t qualify for funding.

We moved house this year and my son has started at a new nursery, which he loves and is thriving at. He turned three in March so we asked his new nursery if we could pay for three days a week for the term leading up to his third birthday and then his universal 15 hours would kick in the term after.

Now he qualifies for his universal hours we are going in circles with the nursery telling us we must supply them with a code but all the sources I’ve come across online state you don’t need a code for the 15 universal hours. I can’t find a code anywhere!

Does anyone else have experience with this please? I’m starting to panic at the thought of a massive bill every month! Thank you!

You don’t need a code but you do need to fill in a funding form so they can claim the universal hours.

Thank you! I think they’re claiming they can’t submit the form without a code but I can’t supply one 🙈 Oerhaps they’re filling out the wrong form but we’ve been going around in circles, I’m just worried they’re not on it and we will be billed for this month even though we’re entitled to these 15 hours 😩🤦🏻‍♀️

It's from the age of 3. It's part of the school system.
The first year of Foundation stage - which is two years.
The second year is what's usually known as Reception class. That's also free....are you horrified at that too?
That's for @HoskinsChoice .

Am I reading this right? You can willingly be a SAHM and therefore not work or pay any tax and, whilst you're at home, your child can go to nursery paid for by people who do work and pay tax?

The 15 hours for children over three is early education it's not childcare
Education is free in this country and both parents don't have to go to work to access it

You’ll need to provide a birth certificate and sign a funding form to access the universal 15 hours for which all three to four year olds are eligible.
The code they refer to is for working parents topping up to the 30 hours although you do not need to use all 30.

Does the three full days that you have requested take you over the 15 hours? If so then yes you would need a code to access anything over and above the 15 without paying.

If you’re only accessing the Universal 15 hours then no, you don’t need a code.

Sorry I’m going to add to my post that actually, in order to access the 30 hours top up, both parents have to be working. So in your case you wouldn’t be eligible.
That isn’t a criticism, not in the slightest. But the 30 hours is to enable working parents to get back to work.
Hope this clarifies for many.

Is there a chance your provider doesn't participate in the scheme?

When we went to view the nursery they told us they did, there’s definitely other children attending which are funded with working parents and it’s Ofsted registered. Annoyingly they mentioned the funding code then and I mentioned we wouldn’t be able to supply a code and they told me not to worry! I was hesitant about my little boy starting because of it and they said it would be fine and now he’s settled in and just turned three it’s been bought up again 😩🙈

Our nursery has managed to sort the issue now, thank you so much to everyone for their help!
