To think that luxury is addictive?

Once you get used to a certain level of comfort, it’s hard to go back. Whether it’s flying business class, staying in five-star hotels or even just small everyday luxuries like nicer skincare, it changes your standards.

I’ve noticed that when I experience something luxurious, I start justifying why I “need” it, even if I was perfectly fine without it before. It’s not even about showing off - it’s just that once you’ve had a taste of something better, the thought of downgrading feels almost impossible.

Has anyone else found this? Or do some people just not care about luxury at all?

It’s good old fashioned lifestyle creep. It’s why you get people on here trying to convince people they’re struggling on £100k. They can manage on less, they just don’t want to.

I agree. Those £100K strugglers will be blowing a fortune on luxuries they don’t mention in their posts.

Years ago I was made redundant and had to cut my cloth and start economising. I was really surprised that a lot of changes made zero difference to my life. I switched to a cheaper hairdresser and started to use supermarket shampoo and conditioner. My hair was just as nice! It made me realise that I’d been wasting ridiculous amounts of cash on things that didn’t make my life any better.

Now that my financial circumstances have significantly improved I’ve always tried to be mindful not to slip into bad habits. I’d rather spend my money on experiences than ‘things’.

Made the mistake of booking a swim up room a few years back and now I couldn’t go back to a normal room and the sun bed wars. If I’m staying in the UK I’m happy in a premier inn but when I go abroad I want a bit more luxury, probably because we are there longer and spend more time in the room.

I was going to say the same 😆 If you continue to live like a student but on a decent salary, you will feel (and probably be) rich beyond your wildest dreams!

I go to a spa every 2 weeks for 3 hours of pampering.
If i see something i like i buy it.
I have very good skin care products.
I always by clothes new.
If i can upgrade with flights at a good price i will.
Hotels i pay more for child free stay hotel's.
Im a fussy eater so i will pay more if i want better.
My bedding has to be changed every 5 days towel washed after every use.
Its not a brag its a why the fuck not.
No one is paying it for me so i do splash out on things because i can and i will.

I don’t generally.

But damn my French in-laws have made me love L’Octaine and now I have to have it. Not that’s that high end. But it’s not cheap either.
