Just that really, dp prefers dark and wants to change doors and worktops…I think if we change handles it might be fine.i love the idea of dark too, but i like the bright and airy feel too so im a bit torn. But obviously we both need to be happy. Just looking for opinions. Thank you.

I am 100% team bright and airy. I like the colour.

I hate dark worktops and agree you must not get them. Sorry if thread’s moved on!

Yeah we are definitely set on white marble worktop 🙌

If the photo is recent and you’ve just moved in/about to move in, I’d live with it for a bit. We changed so much when we renovated, some for the best, other things we would perhaps have made a different decision once we’d lived with it and seen it different lights/seasons etc

LilDeVille · 11/05/2025 18:17

I’d change the walls and counters personally, and add lots of art, plants etc. Far easier than changing the kitchen!

I would love to be able to do this but I don’t have the headspace to live in a building site. Unfortunately it’s like I have PTSD of years living in cramped, half done conditions with my ex.It’ll have to be changed before we move in, while we have floors and other carpentry work being completed.

It will just be the doors and worktops being changed, the layout will stay as is.

Yeah. But I’m saying decor is easier to change than a kitchen, that’s all :)

We have a black sink (not our choice). We live in a hard water area and the sink looks terrible, I wouldn’t ever choose black for kitchen or bathroom as a result. We also had a black kitchen in a previous rented house. Awful. The rest of the kitchen is bog standard Magnet white gloss, it’s a plain and functional look but I do think it’s a bit dated now. We are hoping to move and the house we are buying has a two tone kitchen and no black thankfully!

I hear what you’re saying, however, it’s a lot of money for this house, I will never move again, I want to make sure I LOVE this kitchen. I don’t want to keep changing the colour of the walls to try to keep my mind off the fact that I hate the cupboard colour 😬

Ok, I thought I was agreeing with you and you said you’re going to change the countertops and keep the cupboards, clearly got the wrong end of the stick 😆

Also if you’re going to live there forevermore then you can pretty much guarantee you won’t be stuck with the same kitchen for the whole time!

Enjoy, I love moving! Exciting!

Oh also my friend painted her kitchen cupboards a couple of years ago, still look fab. If the house is otherwise perfect then I wouldn’t let the kitchen put you off!

It might be ok if you go for a good strong colour on the walls and floor and whatever else is in there. As it is it looks a bit institutional-catering.

The floor will be a neutral white/cream matte tile (large ones) all the way from the front door. So unsure on wall colour as that will be muted but also depending on cupboard colour…god this is so confusing 🤣

Is it too late to reconsider the floor? It might end up looking a bit clinical / cold.

If in doubt, just search apartmenttherapy or similar until you find something you like and copy shamelessly.

No it’s not too late, but I just know what I don’t want (dark, patterned or mottled tile)and I would like it to glow from the front door. I’ll use rugs to soften it up

I also don’t like glossy shiny flooring 😅
