To pay £4,000 for a tooth.

My first molar is missing and I'm a bit conscious of it plus it's the main tooth I would use to chew with. It's going to cost £4,000 to get an implant and sinus lift which is also needed.
I'm getting a loan out to cover it.
If I told anyone they would probably think I was mad for spending that on a tooth but my only other option is to have a gap or wear a denture which I really don't fancy.
If it was you,, would you leave it with the gap or would you pay the money to get it sorted permanently? Would the first molar being missing bother you?
Curious to see what the opinions are.

My parents are old school and I just know if I told them they would be flabbergasted at me paying that amount!

I had an implant with sinus lift last year (the cost was similar to yours) and am very glad I did. Having a gap in your teeth makes you very self-conscious, plus, it's unlikely the dentist could supply a denture for one rear tooth, as it would, apparently, drive you insane. Money well spent, I say.

I definitely think it is worth it OP! I may be having two implants on two of my front teeth (just waiting for 3d scan). Both teeth have old root canals, one of which has failed and the other has some bone loss.

How did those of you who have had front teeth done manage the process during healing and before you had the crown fitted? Did you have a temporary denture? So worried about this bit of the process that it could keep falling out.

Dunno if my last message posted but most of my lower side molars (and upper tbf) are missing (having restorative dentistry, methadone ruined my teeth I’m a recovered addict) and I can chew fine with my remaining molars (3 top each side, one bottom each side) I have no front teeth missing at all, bar my first molars if they count so nobody can tell I have missing teeth.

if it’s for vanity/looks go for it girl! But you’ll be fine chewing without one molar. I guarantee that nobody has ever noticed it either.

dont put yourself into debt to do it x

It’s a necessary cost - i’d be doing the same

aLittleWhiteHorse · 01/07/2025 20:28

I paid something similar 11 years ago and have never regretted it. In your case, since it’s not very noticeable , I might investigate getting it done in Eastern Europe. I’d avoid Turkey due to hearing so many reports of poor healthcare there. (I’m sure the locals in Turkey know where to go for good service.)

I had an old failed (20 years) implant removed. Two bone grafts and a new implant - well worth it!

DisforDarkChocolate · 02/07/2025 15:43

I've just had mine removed and can't afford an implant, it's upsetting.

I'm approaching 60 and still suffering from the effects of crap childhood dentistry.

I had a front tooth implant and had a denture for 9 months between extraction and crown fitting.

Had a bone graft. The denture is an irritation but fine. The worse period for me was after extraction and graft it was too painful to wear the denture and after implant surgery.

no regrets

I went abroad and got my implant and sinus lift for around 600 after I had it removed in the uk
it was an upper back tooth so not noticeable or urgent

had a lovely holiday as well

they wanted 4k plus in the uk

Thanks for your reply! How long were you not able to wear the denture for and how did you manage normal life during that time? I am worried about work when I have lots of meetings to attend where I am presenting!
