Young children and camping at The Royal Welsh Show

I’ve always wanted to go to the Royal Welsh Show, this year I’ve decided to do it and camp nearby for the duration of the show. I’d be doing it alone with my two children between 5 and 12 and I’m perfectly fine with that! However family members have been commenting that it’s going to be boring for the kids, no playgrounds/child friendly activities/once they’ve seen one cow they’ve seen them all etc and that I’m setting us up for a rough time.

Does anyone have experience with taking young children to the show and camping for the entire time? Am I being unreasonable to do it?

We've been to the RWS when dc were younger, I would have thought they'd be lots for.them.to see and do.

The showground is only a 20 minute walk to Builth Wells, which is a market town with shops, a playground and cafes etc. It also has a swimming pool. My DD at 12 (at 5 would have loved it!) wouldn't have enjoyed staying at the show all day every day, but if I broke it up with swimming or a walk to get a cake she'd enjoy it

There’s loads for kids actually on the Showground, what sort of thing do they like? There’s music, all kinds of animals, big shows in the main ring usually something like dancing diggers or stunt motorcycles, woodland area with tree guys racing up tall poles, chainsawing etc, loads more. Mine love it.

You could also go paddling in the river, swim in Builth pool, take them canoeing down the Wye from Glasbury, try any of the many wonderful nearby walks, go to Hay on Wye and visit castles, bookshops, cafes.
