To go on HRT?

I am 44 and have been in peri for at least 3 years - very irregular periods during that time and haven’t currently had one for 5 months.

To begin with my main symptom was the endless rage, like PMT x million, but all the time. I started taking a natural menopause supplement which manages that pretty well, and I haven’t noticed any other symptoms, apart from occasional migraines (I maybe get about 6 a year so not a huge problem). Oh and maybe sleeping, my sleep doesn’t seem to be as restful these days.

I know things could take a turn in terms of symptoms, but if I carry on like I am, relatively unscathed by menopause, is it still worth me going on HRT? I know I’m relatively young to have been in peri this long, and I wondered if I’m storing up problems for later in life with a lack of oestrogen?

Look at the positives of HRT for bones and cardiac health, it’s not just to get rid of hot flushes.

Absolutely.
I wish I had gone on it sooner. The rage and mood swings were insane!
It can help protect against osteoporosis, possibly Alzheimer’s, help prevent middle age spread, hair loss, heart disease, joint pains…the list goes on. The benefits far outweigh the possible negatives imo.

Ok thank you! I will message the doctors next week, sounds like it would be a good move.

I was on it for 5 years from 47 to 52 I am glad I did but for 2 of those years I didn't tolerate it very well. Enlarged/engorged breasts and weight gain that was impossible to lose, especially on my stomach, hips and thighs. I put on 1.5 stone.

numerous studies actually show that HRT helps prevent weight gain and belly fat.
Most women put weight on during peri/menopause as they don’t adequately reduce calories. The simple fact is we need a lot less calories at this age unfortunately.

I was very similar to you and started it! Feel a lot better and have no intention of stopping any time soon. Good for your bones too and your face!

Look at the numerous threads about weight gain progesterone increases appetite it isn't as simple as counting calories.
