To think the plumber should fix this ASAP?

Interested to see what common opinion is on this as I feel I’m in the right but want to check before sending a message.

Had a plumber in about 2 months ago to replace one radiator and fix another that wasn’t getting hot. He came and did the work and then we didn’t use those rooms for a couple of months as one is my office but I’m on mat leave and the other is baby’s bedroom but she’s been in with us. Things have moved on and we’ve now started to use both rooms. Have noticed now that neither radiator is getting hot.

messaged plumber yesterday to ask him to come and sort and explained it’s the baby’s bedroom and it’s too cold for her overnight but he said the earliest he can do is next Friday (over a week away).

AIBU to think he didn’t do the job properly so now it’s his responsibility to come and sort it asap regardless of other appointments?

It's been two months and you didn't notice. That part is on you. He'll come to you when he can, that's perfectly reasonable.

Do they need to be bled?

bridgetreilly · 09/05/2025 09:33

Babies are more resilient to cold than you think. They survived before central heating.

Howmuchlongeruntilwegetthere · 09/05/2025 09:34

You’re unreasonable.

Firstly because it’s not an emergency and no more important than anyone else’s plumbing job, secondly because you’ve left it months before noticing. How’s he to know if it’s actually a fault with the installation given it’s been so long?

Cosyblankets · 09/05/2025 09:37

Why is it more important that pre booked work?
Let's say you were getting a new sink fitted and they said it would take a morning.... you take the morning off work. Then the plumber cancels your job and goes to another job that wasn't booked in. How would you feel about that?
The world does not revolve around you. He hasn't said he won't come. He said he'll come when he's available.

ConkerGame · 09/05/2025 10:15

Ok apparently I am unreasonable! Must’ve been very lucky with my previous plumber who would’ve been round in a shot!

Have you checked the to make sure the valves are not turned off?

TheSwarm · 09/05/2025 10:35

YABU. It's two months later, how do you know it's something he messed up to start with or it's just something gone wrong since then? Did you test the radiators at the time & have you checked the valves are open etc?

Regardless, your baby will be fine and if not, portable heaters are a thing. Always worth having a couple of fan heaters or whatever anyway in case you need them in situations like this.

Sherararara · 09/05/2025 10:39

It’s been two months. His previous work is irrelevant now as you have no idea if the current issue is related or not. And a radiator not getting hot is hardly an emergency call out, even for a babies room, even in the middle of winter - which it definitely is not.

Cyclebabble · 09/05/2025 10:41

Is the boiler working itself? Have you bled the radiator? Are you absolutely sure that the valve for the radiator is open? I would check these before he comes back.

GasPanic · 09/05/2025 10:41

Probably that the valves with either be turned off or they are full of air and need bleeding.

You could always go back to your old plumber.

Whispee · 09/05/2025 10:42

Of course you're being unreasonable to expect them to drop everything for some works they carried out 2 months ago.

BlondiePortz · 09/05/2025 10:44

Demanding does not give you what you want life doesn't always work that way

DaisyChain505 · 09/05/2025 10:45

Yes you’re being unreasonable.

If you’d had messaged him the days after he’d done the original work I’m sure he would have tried to squeeze you in immediately but you can’t just message randomly two months down the line and expect him to drop everything for you.

dogcatkitten · 09/05/2025 10:45

Can you turn them up yourself? There's usually a flow adjustment somewhere on the radiator, the other thing is to try bleeding them, there may be some air trapped stopping them warming up properly.

Looal · 09/05/2025 10:46

It was two months ago, would be bonkers for him to cancel pre existing appts for your not an emergency situation

icelollycraving · 09/05/2025 10:46

If you have taken two months to flag it as being not right, I’m guessing he thought it wasn’t exactly urgent. Yabu.

They probably need bleeding. Utube will show you how

rubyslippers · 09/05/2025 10:47

Why didn’t he test the rads when he fitted / repaired them?
that’s fairly usual - or it has been when I’ve had any work like this done
but regardless YABU as it’s non emergency and two months after he did the work

So you expect him to drop everything when you haven't checked for two months?

Jeschara · 09/05/2025 10:51

Very entitled, sounds like you have not checked the radiators, I had this happen and my partner bled them, all OK.
