I’ve never seen or heard a parent refer to their child as “sexy”

I’ve never seen anyone having a nap on a public bench.

I’ve never seen someone cajole their daughter into the aisle at a wedding so they can be a stealth bridesmaid

All the above is what I’ve read about on MN recently that people do and have seen before done, regularly.

Do people lie on Mumsnet?
I don’t think they lie.
Surely they wouldn’t lie about a serious illness, no - I don’t think so.
I thought they came here to share their stories and problems and opinions and stuff like that.
I certainly wasn’t lying about my cousin ditching me in Mexico - which is the most outrageous thing I’ve ever shared on here.
What’s the point in lying?

I've never met anybody who's had sepsis (and I have a fairly broad and varied social circle), yet if half of the A&E threads on Mumsnet are to be believed, most people have had it at least four times.

My DF died from it - but he was 88 and was riddled with (undiagnosed until the end) cancer. Not one other person I've encountered has had it, and yet as you say it's rife on MN. I don't dispute that it happens, but according to MN it's something everyone has, or is about to have. I'm in my 60s btw.

I don’t know anyone who’s child is ASD or ADHD yet on Mumsnet it seems that everyone’s is

Stop being ridiculous.

Happyinarcon · 09/05/2025 03:48

I’ve never come across so many people that have had male midwives, male childcare staff, male gynaecologists etc and insist they are a million times better than women and we are silly for having gender preferences.
Ive also not met anyone who would argue that it’s ok if kids to wear revealing clothes because it’s our fault for looking.

Unless you live an incredibly sheltered life with few acquaintances, of course you do.

Husband and son have ADHD. If you knew us, I doubt you would be aware.

Weepixie · 09/05/2025 03:57

@NattyTurtle59 I'm in my 60s btw

Im in my late 60’s and apart from my cousins 17 year old daughter who died of Sepsis very suddenly I know other people who’ve had it but thankfully survived.

but according to MN it's something everyone has, or is about to have.

That is quite some exaggeration from you.

Quite how people leave themselves so open to showing how daft they are with posts like the one made is beyond me.

I had a couple male gynecologists and they were terrible! They didn’t take my concerns seriously at all, and acted like it was a huge chore every time I asked them to look at something for me. The doctor that did my tubectomy said to me, before the procedure, “So! You’re closing up shop?” Like I’m some kind of baby factory…

I will only see female gynecologists now. They are so much better

AzurePanda · 09/05/2025 04:00

I’ve never heard anyone refer to completely normal human behaviour as “abusive”.

my midwife was female but I have seen both male and female nurses and doctors for smear tests and lots of different things including pregnancy, 2 female nurses have caused me the most pain with their rough handling

I make appointments with who meets my requirements at the time I really don't care if male or female regardless of what I am having done

BlueEyedBogWitch · 09/05/2025 04:07

I’ve seen 1 and 3 on your list.

I’ve never seen anyone asleep on a bench. I once saw a woman asleep in a field though.

I try to go to the same one when she’s good, but sometimes they change practices or go away for maternity leave themselves… almost enough to give me abandonment issues!

Mothership4two · 09/05/2025 04:37

I have managed to get to my 60th year without having a male medical professional ever examine my 'nether regions'. Generally I have had no complaints except for one horrible nurse who was the 'smear nurse' when I was in my 30s. I hate the term 'battleaxe' but she really was one plus a bit rough (below) and belittling.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 09/05/2025 04:58

240000 people have sepsis each year. I’ve seen people with it through work and daily life outside of work.

Never driving above the speed limit in a 20mph zone.
on the thread by someone with an annoying new car which beeps when you go above the limit SO Many people saying ‘just stick to the limit’
I live in a 20mph zone, travel a lot by car and bike, I probably see about one person a week sticking to the limit assiduously and they are usually learners/blackbox havers. Almost everyone goes about 23-25, with plenty actually speeding too.

And I got a speeding ticket last year. 24 in a 20. Bloody ridiculous , but turns out that’s the law.

I’ve never seen anyone asleep on a bench. I once saw a woman asleep in a field though

if you’d been in the British Museum about 2 weeks ago you’d have seen a very jet lagged me fast asleep whilst half sitting up/half slumped forward on a bench right next to the huge statue of Amenhotep. I was there for over an hour and recall wakening up every so often just to check my things from the gift shop were still on the bench beside me.

Meanwhile my elderly dad and step mum were sitting outside having ice creams and working on their tans given how beautiful a day it was and it never crossed their mind once to be worried about me or that I could have been in a hospital or perhaps even a police station. Instead, they decided I’d probably got carried away in the Greek and Roman section and ordered another ice cream.

Im at peace with the distinct possibility that one day there will be videos of me on internet having my snooze that will have been taken by some of the hundreds of tourists who were also there that day.

Vworried1 · 09/05/2025 05:44

Never heard anyone slaughter step mums like they do on here .Also never heard anyone be as callous about the children of step parents in real life . Like where posters said the step mum deserved no support with her critically ill baby in hospital , because she was a step mum and ‘ should have known’ he had other children . It was a hideous thread . Wouldn’t fly in real life .

Butchyrestingface · 09/05/2025 05:44

People absolutely ripping their knitting over a youngish (or older) adult woman being referred to as a ‘girl’.

They may be feelin’ it, but they sure ain’t sayin’ it, in my experience.

Weepixie · 09/05/2025 05:45

NattyTurtle59 · 09/05/2025 05:02

I read plenty of posts which is why I know you’re exaggerating.

And you weren’t the first to raise it? You were the one that caught my attention given the way I have threads set up.

Twiglets1 · 09/05/2025 05:46

On Mumsnet it seems to be considered awful if you let your off lead dog go up to another off lead dog.

In my local park everyone does this and it’s all fine. Dogs that don’t like other dogs just growl at them or tell them off & we all get on with our day.

gannett · 09/05/2025 05:48

I've never seen any dog leap up at random strangers in a park and slobber over them. From the dog-hating threads you'd think this was an everyday occurrence. I've regularly run and walked in parks up and down the UK, I love dogs so I notice every time I see one, and 95% of them are way too fixated on their own business and all the exciting smells around to pay humans who aren't their owner any heed. Sometimes you get an extra friendly one, which is lovely, but they're the minority.

I have lived with 18 different men in my life across family, houseshares and my partner, and none of them ever left piss around the toilet. (Apart from one in the student houseshare as a one-off drunken accident - the piss was the least of it - and he was mortified.)

gannett · 09/05/2025 05:51

The opposite of this must be all the posters who don't know of any friendships between men and women in their lives, and for whom socialising with anyone of the opposite sex who isn't your partner one-on-one is basically an emotional affair. Just absolutely bizarre stuff, given literally everyone I've met in my adult life has friendships with someone of the opposite sex.

Simonjt · 09/05/2025 05:51

An adult use the work yuk.
A tinkly laugh
Head tilt on anything other than a dog.
I’ve never seen anyone in a dress that looks like a homeless person, a cake topper etc like the dresses that are regularly suggested in S&B.
