New work during displacement notice

Help please! so I have been made redundant from my job. I am currently on a displacement leave (notice equivalent, till end of July), and all my access to work resources has been cut, so I can’t do any work anymore, a nice gardening leave…
there is a possibility that I will be starting a 6months contracting job in mid June. But can I continue my displacement leave (ie receiving old jobs salary and benefits) even if I start new work?
my redundancy FAQs are stating that I have to notify my old employer if I start a new role and may wish to shorten my displacement leave, which seems to give me an option to continue being on notice… It is not very clear to me - anybody has experience with such situation?

Thank you, however I don’t think it answers my question…

Its unlikely your job will continue their payments once you have a new contract.

Are you due a payout as you need to check exactly what you are and are not allowed to do as some places will treat that as you giving notice to leave so will stop all payments.

your company policy is clear. You're taking on a new job elsewhere and being paid by the new employer, so you have to let them know.

They are offering you a choice - stay on garden leave, continue to be paid by us, and don't work for anyone else. Or let us know that you have found new work and we will agree the actual date when your garden leave will end.

however, I presume that they are also giving you an actual redundancy payment, to compensate for the loss of your job, and based on the number of years and months you've worked for them?

You should not have to sacrifice your redundancy payment just because you find a new job, just that your notice period will be reduced.

Thank you so much for taking time to reply. I agree, intuitively I would imagine that once I got another employment, my notice will seize.. however, the wording is confusing, as it says: when you start a new job, you MAY wish to shorten the notice period.. in my view, much clearer way to say it would be:’once you start another employment, your notice will seize’…
anyway, i can confirm that indeed it will not have effect on my redundancy pay out..

‘You may wish to end your gardening leave and start your new role immediately or you may wish to continue your gardening leave and delay your new role’ is really what they mean
