To ask what are these tiny holes? Moths or something else?

I’ve noticed that in a number of my older, more frequently worn, cotton t-shirts and tops, there are small holes in the middle of the fabric, usually at the bottom of the front.

I noticed yesterday that I have something very similar, albeit at the bottom of the back, on a thin wool jumper that I’ve only worn a couple of times.

Whats the explanation for them? Moths? Of so, why generally always the same place on the garment? I’m perplexed.

A sharp belt buckle.

Yeah it's usually buttons or belts that do it. On the side is pulling them into place often.

I agree belt buckle or zip. I drove myself mad with this a few years ago and demothed everything only to realise that none of my tops had holes elsewhere and all of the tops affected were v thin cotton. I think leaning against a sink/worktop coupled with rubbing on a button/buckle or belt causes these tiny holes.

Ah, that makes sense! Thank you.

Button or buckle on belt. DH gets this all the time! I tend to wear leggings so none of these - also wear longer tops.

It's just wear on the front between jeans waistband or a belt and desks/worktop/seatbelts. Thin cotton or viscose t shirts only need a thread to break and a hole appears.
