To wonder if house prices are decreasing in any area of the UK?

My DP and I bought our house two years ago, but the valuation has increased in that time. We would not have been able to afford the house if it was valued at its current price back then.

Is there anywhere in the UK where house prices are decreasing?!

Areas run by Reform councils - I wouldn’t move to one.

Yes, some areas where second home taxes have come in.

Grangemouth area in Scotland. Scotland's only oil refinery closed, by petoIneos, dumped by the Scottish government and not helped by Westminster.

I’m in the north east and they seem to be going up and up here. It’s a difficult market to buy in now with a lot of competition (currently in the process of selling and buying).

I think prices have flattened in some very expensive commuter towns, where mortgage rates are making affordability an issue. For a while a lot of people made massive gains on a first flat in london & used that to upscale to a house. But then covid rocketed house prices further out as people wanted a garden.... now I think people aren't making such big gains on the flats and can't borrow enough at current mortgage rates to afford the houses, so the house prices may flatten out in the commuter belt.
