Has anyone else’s baby been injured by the Snuggle Baby Bath?

My 3-month-old daughter suffered painful friction burns and blisters on her toes after just a few minutes in the Snuggle bath. She was inconsolable and bled from the wounds. I’ve since found several other similar stories online and have reported the product to Trading Standards.
If you’ve had a similar experience, please get in touch. I’m willing to take this as far as necessary to ensure this product is properly investigated and no more babies are hurt.

What ?? Friction burns from what ? Blisters from just sitting in a baby bath ? Was the water too hot ? Neither of my kids have ever suffered friction burns or blisters from this Bath

Lavender14 · 05/05/2025 19:30

I think op it sounds more likely that the water was too hot. Do you have a bath thermometer and have you checked it against another thermometer to see that it's working correctly? I can't see any other way that bath could have caused injury.

Shnuggle bath cut foot www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4176782-shnuggle-bath-cut-foot

Seems they were made aware of an issue several years ago

Brbreeze · 05/05/2025 19:36

Goodness, that's terrible.
I've used one on both my babies up to 6 months plus with no issues at all. I can't really understand how this injury would occur.

We've also passed the bath back and forward between friends, so I think my one is actually up to 8 babies now and no issues.

WhereAreMyKids · 05/05/2025 19:37

Totally understand your upset and hope you get what you want from your complaint, but just to say, if bleeding, apply pressure and hold. Don't keep dabbing.

Roshkate · 05/05/2025 19:52

I use a bath thermometer, bath is never hotter that 36degrees. I have twins and this has only affected one and it’s the one thats more likely to trash her legs around. The water was not too hot, it would have to be pretty hot to cause blisters.

I just want to add that the water was never hotter than the recommended 36 Degrees and I actually had no idea what the cause was to begin with. I bathed her and the next morning there was blood on her sheets, after checking her over I found the large blister on her little toe. I couldn’t work out what had caused it so I cleaned it and left it for a day, the following day I bathed her again, a few hours later I noticed blood on her baby grow. It was only once I began researching for hours that evening that I found multiple posts on this website and others where parents had mentioned this following use of the shnuggle bath. There was a second blister within an hour of using the bath again. I just wanted to clarify.

Oh, no, poor baby.
That is horrific.

Zeitumschaltung · 05/05/2025 20:26

I imagine if the water were hot enough to cause blisters the baby would have much worse injuries, not only on one foot.
Poor little thing, good luck with your complaint.

BucketFacer · 05/05/2025 20:31

😳 I just ordered one of these today. Your poor baby! Is there a rough bit of plastic or something?

EmeraldShamrock000 · 05/05/2025 20:36

Her little foot is so cute.

WickWood · 05/05/2025 20:39

Wow! Ive always used a schnuggle for my 7 month old (when he's not in the big bath with me or his dad) and thinking about it he did once have a cut foot, I assumed it was a cut from his toenails from him rubbing his feet together but now I wonder if it was this bath.

This was our exact thoughts when we first noticed it, it was only because it happened for a second time that I started looking into it and I am absolutely sure it was the bath. She has been using the bath for some time before this incident, but regardless. No baby bath should be capable of this. Glad it didn’t happen again to your little one

Any idea of what causes it? Is it the plug bit? Concerning. I used one with my firstborn and had no issues and have just taken it out to use for my baby due later this month and now I'm totally put off using it.

I’m unsure exactly how it’s happened, I am going to line the bath with a towel and carefully watch what her feet do to try and work it out. I have pasted a comment below which I found on baby center. Its such a shame because it was serving us well and I had heard so many rave about this bath.

I used it with my first and it didn't happen but I put my little girl in it tonight and could see exactly how it happened. She is a big leg kicker/ mover. Basically as there isn't much room as the bath goes into the point curve at the end the outside of her foot follows the contour of the bath effectively rubbing it over and over with each thrash of her legs.
Couldn't believe it, the other posters were spot on. I guess it all depends on how your baby bathes as my first one was fine but this little one is too thrashed for this type of bath it seems!!!

Hmmmm. Sounds like Friction against the smooth surface. So bizzare. I'm just trying to think why it happens on this particular bath and not others then. Maybe as you've said the curvature doesn't give them as much space to kick as a normal bath.

Guess if it's an issue that's come up before they should have done more to change the shape or make it a bit wider to avoid this

AliBaliBee1234 · 05/05/2025 23:57

Used this bath for 6 months with no issues.

CMP513 · 23/05/2025 08:21

Hi

My son had the exact same! Only on one side but the other side started going red last night. After googling, I found another thread where a few mums had said it happened to their little ones too.

I used this bath with my daughter and had no issues but my son does kick loads in the bath.
