Baby food…

AIBU to think that BLW is becoming the new trend but we’re actually not feeding babies enough?

I know when I was a baby I was given some a meal or two a day from 6m (some say 4m)!

I suppose I’m just curious really.
I did BLW with my first and it is great for exploration but I always felt sooo scared he wasn’t eating enough. Part of me wonders if I should’ve been giving a whole puree meal as well as letting him mess around with solids.

my 2nd is approaching 6m now so I’ve started thinking about it.

No as milk should be their main source of calories until 1. Food before this is about learning which includes textures, smells and exploring. Most babies crack it by about 9-10 months.

The size of portions of foods which babies and toddlers actually require is also very small and most people give babies too much from the get go and then get worried that their not eating enough. Babies and toddlers are pretty good at self regulating when they are hungry and how much by if you let them.

@Scottishskifuntotally get this, my 2.5yr old is great now but we really went through the stress from around 9m to 15m…

I'm more amused that BLW is supposedly a new trend. Most people I know did it when DD was a baby and she's now 30

Started typing but then @Scottishskifun posted saying pretty much exactly what I was going to say! Don't worry OP, babies really don't need to eat very much at all.

Just keep off those pouches!!
good luck

And they might hit another food refusal/beige stage again or they might not (its a behavioural evolution thing for toddlers to start refusing coloured food as it might be poisonous from gatherer days). It's completely normal and as long as you don't overwhelm, pressure etc but keep offering variety in small amounts with a safe food most come out of it the other side.

I would say its easy to get stressed about it all, I was with my first from 18 months when he started on it. But they pick up on emotions way more then we realise and then think something is wrong.

SR nutrition on Instagram and her weaning book is brilliant for explaining things but also how to look at weaning differently.
