Will she get sick from eating this and AIBU for being a little pissed off?

I had a hospital appointment yesterday and couldn’t take DD with me (she has autism and doesn’t cope in hospital environments).

I left her at home, with my grandparents (early 70’s, still fit and active, etc) and my sister (28 years old). She is quite easy to look after, as she just goes off and does her own thing and only really needs supervising.

I spoke to my grandparents today who said that she was complaining that the chicken in the fridge was spicy yesterday when she was eating it. I then realised that these (linked below) were what she was talking about and that all 3 of them have let DD eat it raw!

I did get a little bit pissed off because firstly, it’s obviously a packet of chicken that needs cooking and it says it right on the front. Secondly, DD kept telling them that it needed cooking and they just ignored her and thought they knew better.

Will this make her sick and unwell? She ate I would say maybe a small filet of it? And AIBU for being pissed off at all 3 of them for making such a stupid mistake and not checking properly?

How's your DD now, @Friends1996?

It’s irrelevant though because that isn’t what she ate 🫣

They are the same product, they just come in different flavours so if one is raw inside so is the other.

I'm quite shocked by the amount of people who don't know this type of chicken is raw, I honestly thought that was common knowledge, you're not just reheating them you're actually cooking them.

Dramatic · 08/05/2025 19:23

As for the op, I would be furious, really really angry. And I'd expect them to be extremely apologetic about it

@Dramatic Simply a matter of never having used a product like this, in my own case - I make everything we eat from scratch and have done for many years now. I have never looked at this type of product* on the shelves.

Back in the day when I had little ones if I ever did use pre-prepared I used to get the type of thing that was pre-cooked and only needed heating through.

In person I would definitely have determined that it wasn't cooked (and in any case I would have actually checked the packaging for cooking instructions, especially if I was looking after someone's child!).

I agree with you, I'd be furious too, and the way they reacted was inexcusable.

@Friends1996 I really hope the fever is not related and that your DD manages to dodge any food poisoning!

*So I suppose I really should have kept my mouth shut.

So DD did end up in hospital - however it was something completely unrelated causing the fever which is now being treated and thankfully we seem to have escaped any ill effects from the chicken!

I'm so glad to hear that @Friends1996 and hope everything is okay with your daughter regarding the other issue.

@Friends1996 Poor love, hope she's feeling better now. 💐🍫
