To think there should be as many baby boys clothes as girls?

I went shopping for my 6 month old son to get some more summer bits and nearly all the shops were the same loads of clothes for girls and a small section for boys. Even primark was the same loads of baby clothes for girls and a tiny bit for boys to one side.

Honestly? There are definitely less boy specific clothes than girls, however maybe we just need more unisex clothes and a few options for those who want more girly (e.g. dresses) or boy (e.g. shirts) stuff?

Boys clothes are awful compared to girls . Tesco are the worst for the tiny section although they do have lovely clothes for boys . I went into primark yday for my 9 mth old grandson and there was hardly anything in his size left . You wouldn’t believe it had only just turned may . The whole boys section was ransacked . I literally found 1 dungaree set I liked and everything else was terrible .

It’s almost like the designers just dump boys in a pair of denim shorts and a T-shirt whilst the girls have beautiful pretty dresses .

I agree but it’s the lack of choice so if you need shorts for a boy there’s only a couple of pairs to choose from and so you usually end up with the only 2-3 pairs they sell so you don’t get to pick some out that you like as you can with girls because there’s far less variety to choose from.

It's so true!

And it doesn't get better as they get older. So not only girls have much much bigger clothes section, they can also easily wear boy clothes - all boy clothes are unisex frankly.

H&M tends to have acceptable selection for boys, in most stores at least.

I never understood the reasoning, boys wear as many clothes as girls, so why not selling them?

I feel like shorts could be mostly unisex at that age too, soft cotton or jersey in a variety of colours.

Yes, we found H and M good for basics when DS was little. The adult clothes have gone down in quality though, not sure about the baby/child ranges. Next was good too.

Next has masses of baby boy clothes

Agree it's depressing, I also never see adverts for boys clothes, since mine were babies I have been constantly targeted by carousel adverts and sponsored posts from the likes of Boden, M&S, Gap etc. and it's always all girls stuff - they're both over 5 now.

Sandygran · 03/05/2025 19:41

Yes, I so agree! I have two sons and now 3 grandsons and it has always been like this! There is a children's clothes shop near me and I have NEVER seen boys' clothes in the window. I went into another shop recently on holiday that had a rack of beautiful dress-up clothes for girls -mermaids, fairies etc. I looked around, then asked the assistant where the boys dress-up clothes were. She replied "Oh! I've never been asked for them before"! Crazy.

Its a sad fact but if they sold as much boys clothes as girls it's would be stocked 😢
