To think that tumble driers ruin your clothes?

It’s a bit pathetic really, but a relative tried to get into an argument with me over a flipping tumble drier.

We have a tumble drier but we only use it for a few things. Bedding in the winter/bad weather, towels in the winter and for emergencies.

It’s too expensive to run all the time, and when we were using it regularly we noticed that clothes were getting holes in and sometimes shrinking/fading.

Relative picked a fight over why we have got washing hanging around and argued that the tumble drier isn’t expensive and doesn’t ruin clothes.

I don’t see them as very expensive. I tumble dry a lot but our electricity bill is less than most. I’m not sure if this is because we use less elsewhere or we do less washing but it’s not expensive.

they definitely affect clothes. I won’t tumble dry any jeans, shirts, knitted tops or similar. Simply my joggers and tops that are mostly indoor. It shrinks the jogging bottoms a bit but I don’t mind as they are just for the gym and the house.

My dd and not a daughter in law. This was in a family discussion and we all get on really well. My dd just shrugged her shoulders as at the time my grandsons were living at home with their partners while saving up for mortgages. So six in the household and my daughter full time in a senior position. Everyone mucked in and the remark was lighthearted. Now grandsons in their own homes and only dd and son in law at home. They still use the drier.
