Is this enough socialisation for my child

Dc is 7, currently homeschooled due to recovering from illness, will be back at school in September.

They currently see a friend on the street to play mid week and a Sunday and another friend on the street to play most of the weekend and sometimes after school.
I take Dc to playgrounds and soft play type places, alongside cafes, shopping, zoo, museums..,we also sometimes see my friends and their children & attend birthday parties.

This wasn’t my plan to homeschool, I worry this is enough socialisation? (We don’t have homeschooling families nearby unfortunately)

This sounds perfectly fine to me

I’m sure that fine, it must be a stressful time for you overall and I am sure your child with such a caring Mum will have a good return to school. You may have discussed with school already but they may benefit from a phased return to school in September.

Depends on your child and whether they seem happy/content - some people need more social contact than others. I’d just keep an eye and listen to them. Ask them if they’ve enjoyed their day or what they’d like to do tomorrow etc, and you’ll soon know if it’s time to do extra things or pair things back.

Not on a permanent basis but if your child has been ill then it’s fine.

Very much depends on the child I home schooled and one of them was happy with a few social activities a week another needed multiple a day…. Very different kids

I think it's fine. If you are particularly worried maybe take your child to the closest playground to their school at the time school normally ends, that way they may see a few more school friends than normal?

TheNightingalesStarling · 03/05/2025 17:03

If they are well enough, I'd look for an extra curricular activity they would enjoy. But sounds like you are doing your best.

That's plenty. If your child were miserable and lonely with the current arrangements, you'd know by now!

Anyway, it's only for another four months.
