Is there anything more awful that next door's constant music playing on outdoors speakers?

Why do people subject to their neighbours to this? Even with the doors closed all we can hear is boom boom boom. It's quiet music but lots of bass that rings through the house and makes sitting outside awful.
Have tried to ask them to turn down bass at least but quietness lasted a few days then went back on.

If you frequently play music outside how do you justify it to yourself?

Suspect I'm only one of a few who knows what you're talking about;)

I can still hear that noise over 30 years later. We lived in probably the most hurling mad county in Ireland at the time.

Music's nice. Isnt it?

worrisomeasset · 02/05/2025 22:04

Outdoor speakers are the invention of the devil. There’s simply no excuse for it.

Only if it's your own choice of music!

I don't mind noisy kids or barking dogs but music played outside is the pits and really anti-social. The odd party excepted.

These people have passports…..I’m on holiday at a hotel that doesn’t play any poolside music, it’s a retreat type place and was rather peaceful. An elderly couple arrived two days ago and stream their favourite radio station through their phone at full volume. It’s a local radio station from where they’re from so we get traffic updates and everything.

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 02/05/2025 22:23

Yes, neighbours kids constantly screaming and parents joining in. Constantly. Not normal kids
playing - actual screaming . All the kids in the other gardens playing normally - not these lot.

Why oh why local radio station streamed whilst abroad 🤯

I live near a big green open space. There's one man, looks about 30, who spends every nice day riding around the paths on an electric scooter blasting out rap. Sometimes he sits on a bench for a bit, music still going.
It's infuriating. I've got a feeling he thinks everyone is thinking how cool he is and thinking how great his musical taste is.
He could not be more wrong.

My god ! when did everyone become so grouchy ?

I agree. I have neighbours who play loud music, I had an almost deaf neighbour who had his TV incredibly loud (so loud one night my furniture vibrated), I had a neighbour who would watch rugby in the middle of the night and cheer (my bedroom was next to the living room of the flat next door). Last weekend I could hear screeching tyres from street sprints, this weekend it's guns (duck shooting season). None of this caused me the amount of irritation MNers seem to get from normal everyday life!

Sooty20235 · 03/05/2025 08:11

Dogs, cars, children screaming all fine, but my brain really objects to the thumping.
I really wish I was one of the posters who didn't mind it, I'm trying so hard to tell myself it's ok.

I wish we could ban the sale of portable speakers. In the hands of the terminally selfish they’re an instrument of torture.

As long as it’s not regular and very predictable in duration and intensity… I don’t mind this stuff so much. it’s part and parcel of urban or suburban life.

I want to be comfy being myself at home and that means occasionally playing music in the garden, having a BBQ, and about once every six weeks firing up the pizza oven. I’m sure that’s annoying if every day you are counting on quiet, listening only to radio 2 on your Alexa (😂) or are drying your washing at the time but you do stuff that’s annoying to me, too, even though you might not realise.

live and let live. It’s a much nicer way to exist providing no-one takes the absolute piss.

I can be perfectly comfy in my garden without imposing my music on anyone else who’s also enjoying their garden. If you want music, use headphones!

I only light a fire in my garden if the wind is blowing away from neighbours. The reality is that if you live around other people, you can't really just be 'comfy' and do whatever you want.

Lighting a fire in the day is a twat move. Bonfire smoke is really pervasive. You can’t possibly know if the wind is going to change direction.

Bonfires are for dank, cold, autumn evenings. Not when your neighbours have their windows open, their washing out and are in their gardens.

Functioningdisaster · 03/05/2025 09:06

Yep same here. You can hear the noise of the music connecting to the speakers and it's like 'here we go'. To make matters worse their outside dining area is right on the fence line and you can hear them cackle all afternoon and into the evening.

It’s important to keep abreast of local issues at all times??

It might be me though. Today there’s two younger men throwing a ball back and forth in the pool while having a shouty discussion about their cricketing prowess (best in the club and England came to watch). Between them and the local radio people it’s like being stuck in traffic on the M6 poolside.

sciaticafanatica · 03/05/2025 14:44

It’s the fire pits I hate!!
who the fuck needs fire on a warm evening???
they light it and then everyone has to close their windows because of the smoke and sit in a stuffy house because some selfish cunt has no social awareness or is just entitled.
