Posting on Celebrity's Instagram

Is it weird to post comments on famous people's instagram posts?
Could be anyone from a presenter to actor. 20k followers to 2 million. Doesn't matter.
Is it weirder to expect comments back from said people?

Why would it be weird, isn't the whole point of them posting to get engagement. It's not just their friends and family in the comments

Personally I wouldn't have any expectation of a reply

Itsjustsodepressing · 01/05/2025 21:57

Why would anyone want to post on a celebrity's intagram?

Unless they are are a starstruck teenager I think any one who would do this must have something really lacking in their lives.

friendsonly · 01/05/2025 22:00

Depends what the post is, difference between posting an opinion or interest on a actors post about their new fillm compared to a series of love hearts on a presenters post about their kids birthday but really it’s no different than posting on mumsnet.
weird to expect a reply when they’re presumably getting 100’s though

bingobanjo · 01/05/2025 22:06

I think to do it frequently to many celebrities is strange. The occasional comment on something a favourite celebrity has posted is sweet though.

They shouldn’t expect their comment to be responded to, but I assume the point is the warm feeling their beloved celebrity will get from 100s of comments congratulating or complimenting them. I bet they do scroll through them!

Yes I think the ones that comment put hearts and flames 🔥 on every post seem creepy.
So I don't want to be like that. But then when you do get a response if someone says something more specific you don't want to fall into the bracket of then expecting a response each time you comment on every few posts or less.
I can imagine it's so easy for the followers to get a kick out of a like or comment back.

The question says famous person not just celebrities, your implication that well known people only post vacous content is wrong.

There are loads of famous clever people posring thought provoking stuff on Instagram and staring conversations for followers to join in on.

Well the title of the thread says celebrity. Therefore a assumed the OP was using famous person in the post as a synonym for celebrity.

I don't use instagram.
I thought it was primarily for visual content - photos and videos. I certainly would never associate instagram with meaningful " conversations".

There are all kinds of meaningful conversations taking place on Instagram, your impression of it is quite wrong.

Meaningful conversations about what?

Meaningful conversations about what?

The accounts I follow are health related, women's issues, property renovations, cooking to name a vew

Very similar topics to the ones that are discussed here although the conversations don't flow in quite the same way.

Some posts will get 1000s of comments, are you thinking it's all fan girls swooning over reality stars?

Itsjustsodepressing · 02/05/2025 08:14

Well yes actually.

I thought it was mainly about people posting selfies of themselves for the purpose of getting validation from other people.

I'm not really interested in social media as it seems to be mainly about self advertising.

I don't really know what to say to that, there's no answer to someone judging something about which they have no knowledge 😁

On Instagram you choose who you follow, there are millions of accounts like any social media it's what you make it.

Yes but surely whoever you are "following" has created their account for the express purpose of advertising themselves and wanting other people to validate them?

GroovyChick87 · 02/05/2025 08:29

It's a bit pointless. They're not going to respond and ask you out. They probably see their public social media accounts as an extension of their job. Message if you want to support them, but don't see it as anything meaningful. They will keep their personal accounts private.

QueenOfToast · 02/05/2025 09:03

I would assume that most big celebrities have social media managers who respond to all the fan comments and do whatever it takes to keep audience engagement high. Just because you get a “like” from a celebrity doesn’t mean that they’ve seen your post; it’s just part of the marketing machine.

Yes, exactly. You will almost certainly not be getting a response from the ‘celebrity’, but their SM assistant.

mummytoonetryingfortwo · 02/05/2025 09:05

Surely no adult actually sees it as meaningful though?

20k followers doesn’t indicate celebrity. My sister has that many and she isn’t even an influencer, so she will generally respond to everyone who messages or comments.

Kneeslikethese · 02/05/2025 09:10

The hearts and fore emojis are something I do on my sons bands post, lots of family member + friends do it. It ups the engagement on tg5e post which in turn tells the algorithm that there's lots of reaction, so then it pops up more frequently on other people's instas who don't follow them and therefore if they like what they see gets them more followers.

Coffeeishot · 02/05/2025 09:14

Famous people instagrams are not for their private use though it's for the fans or people they know instagram is for engagement and publicity do you not follow "famous people " op ?

DazedAndConfused321 · 02/05/2025 09:30

It's a bit sad when commenters expect replies. Kim Kardashian isn't going to have a chat with Susan from Blackpool.

What's worse is when celeb photos or news stories are posted by other people (not the celeb, i.e. the sun or fan pages) and people comment things like "You're so strong Kim ignore the haters xxxxx" as if they're speaking directly to the celeb.

TokyoKyoto · 02/05/2025 09:38

Before about 2010 (?) there was no way to comment to celebrities and then we got social media: I think what happened was that the celebs themselves quite enjoyed it at first, but then it got very weird, like it was too much contact. Seems to me that celebs pulled right back and their instagram is now just a marketing tool. Ed Sheehan sometimes replies but it's still marketing.

I know someone who is a celeb in their job and she showed me some of the DMs she gets sent. It's completely wacko what people feel they can say to a human being.
