Is my boss being mean to me? I can’t tell.

So I discovered a major mistake in work yesterday - something that means a year’s worth of work needs to be reviewed and potentially redone.

I told my boss about what I found and his reaction was “you need to slow down”. I don’t think I spoke fast at all though. But I slowed down and his reaction was “I don’t have time for this now or tomorrow and I refuse to spend my Friday on something like that”.

Today he’s not responding to me at all and I feel I’ve done something wrong. All I’ve done is pointing out a potentially bad error.

Am I reading too much into this?

I would send a follow up email. 'Further to our meeting yesterday, this is my report on the current position of the project, if you have time to look into the details over the next few days perhaps we could schedule another meeting next week to discuss the way forward from here. I am at a bit of an impasse until then'. And include a full report on the position 'Important and Confidential'. Do it ASAP. He may be overwhelmed and worried, but you have to protect yourself. Can you include more senior management in the email, 'For Information'.

Do you have any suggested solution OP? Don’t just take a problem to his door.

Well done for sending it in.

Document carefully.
He's involved and he's not happy you found it.

That's not your problem.
You need to cover your arse carefully.

Document clearly when the error was made and make sure you note your take over date.

Excellent advice above on how to frame it.
