Anyone getting fed up of people posting about their ‘wholesome weekends’

Keep seeing this pop up and think they sound pathetic . Am I alone in finding this annoying?

OP posts:

Never seen this phenomenon

Agree. But the irony of these posts (and what the OP is getting at) are the polar opposite of wholesome, quiet or free. As what they are actually doing is spending the whole weekend on social media. What looks like a simple video of someone going about their "quiet life" is actually hours and hours of staging, filming, changing lighting, editing....

True. I actually don’t know where people get the time to do this stuff

thesoundofwildgeese · 01/05/2025 12:03

The nauseating, "I am blessed", "making memories", "elevate", "POV", "authentic self" etc are buzz words. "Wholesome" is one of this year's buzzwords.

This too will pass, only to be replaced by another buzzword which will be adopted by the vacuous on social media.

On the subject of words: yesterday's Times 2 supplement fashion editor informs me that "Marks & Spencer has a nice tiered and wrapped midaxi shidi..."

A "shidi" is apparently a "shirt-midi" which is apparently a mid length shirt dress and a "midaxi shidi" is a longer length shirt dress). I think we can all manage without "shidi", ditto "shacket".

Other than MN, I don't do social media, but these words are all over Twitter/X, too, imported from TikTok and Instagram.

EmeraldRoulette · 01/05/2025 12:45

@thesoundofwildgeese I quite like shacket but the others are bizarre.

Later today I'm going to potter off in my campervan into the sunset abounding with wholesome thoughts and dreams. Reality is that my van is absolutely filthy, I haven't had time to clean it, and I'm currently sat in a tyre fitters as I have two slow punctures and corroding wheels fixed. I've reversed into a tree so bits are missing off the back bumper, and the front bumper looks like a black and white jigsaw puzzle as the paint job was not prepped properly when they converted it. Once I arrive, I'll just have a deck chair and a plastic glass with my Jack Daniels and Coke in it, nothing to showcase. If I can camp peacefully, that would be awesome but the likelihood is that my 1yr old ott bouncy Labrador will offend someone and I'll come home with my tail between my legs. And I thank God none of it will be on social media.

An opposite to a sordid weekend 😁

I know which one I prefer 😎

I love seeing my friends holiday photos as I don’t have holidays( financial and disability reasons)
My DS3 is currently in Japan which looks absolutely stunning.
He has just been in the biggest Muji store in the world and bought me socks!

Yeah, it’s gross.
so many people on mine talk about having the most amazing weekend, how they’re so lucky blah blah.

How many people actually live in the moment and have time to really appreciate what’s going on around them?

All these people have really young kids. There’s nothing wholesome about your kid kicking off and crying over everything all weekend. It’s all a load of shit with everyone trying to portray a perfect life to everyone.

It’s always the ones that post a tonne of stuff like this that split up as well!

Rant over. I just find it sickly. Just have a nice weekend and not tell everyone?

"Gross" 😑

Social media was designed for that reason exactly, to tell people how good a time you've had. I much prefer that to grouchy cranks telling them what they should and shouldn't do on social media.

I find all this utterly bizarre

Agreed! All these people complaining are also on social media, or they wouldn’t see the posts 😂 the irony.

I only want to hear about hard drinking, 48 hour parties, and arguments about where the wheelie bins should be left, so I don't read anything wholesome. Block block block 💪

I don’t know why but I read this in frank Gallagher voice and it kinda goes well together 😂😂

Screamingabdabz · 30/04/2025 22:13

See this is such a change in generational thinking… Gen X would get off on the ‘blow by blow detail of an unwholesome weekend.’ That would be epic and a REAL weekend. Climbing some hill, walking a muddy field and drinking some oat milk? Boring as shit. Get a life.

🤣🤣🤣

DilemmaDelilah · 04/05/2025 09:17

So you're the poster who doesn't like the Saturday and Sunday gang's wholesome weekend posts!

There is an extremely simple solution that I am surprised you haven't managed to work out for yourself..... Don't read posts that annoy you!

You're welcome - happy to help.

Ambi · 04/05/2025 10:49

This is quite apt for us 😄. For years, we've not done anything as a family regularly at weekends due to DHs shifts, so lots of lazing around glued to the sofa. His new job freed up weekends and now we are away every other weekend visiting beautiful spots around the UK. In the few months we've done, Lake District/ Bamburgh/ Forest of Dean/ Wales. This weekend, we're currently kayaking (only bought on Friday from FB Marketplace) at Llyn Tegid in Wales.

I love being active after losing 4st and visiting gorgeous spots and happily post where we are, although I have a dedicated travel Insta account that I post more on. My SM friends are free to unfollow me if they hate seeing what I post 🤷‍♀️.

Do they call them ‘wholesome weekends’? I must have missed this craze.

They absolutely do. A person I know, also refers to it as "swell" which makes me want to puke.
