Why the f is my four year old still awake!?

He’s been awake since half six, no danger naps.

He has been at nursery all day.

He played outside for a while when we got back. Had some food and then shower and watched Peppa pig while I got his sister to bed (she only went to sleep at twenty past eight as well!) then we read some books and then he was listening to his Tonie box.

And he is still awake!

I am literally ready for bed before my kids.

  1. screen time. Never helps anywhere near bedtime for us anyway.
  2. They do this. DD does this from time to time. Always after a nursery day. She seems to be processing stuff. Chats to herself, sings, wriggles around. I bnw just let her get on with it. I find the more i interfere the longer she takes to goto sleep. She's exhausted vut just needs to get something through her head.

Why do modern parents insist on lining up endless activity after activity , often involving screens or music. Just before bed. And then wonder why their child won’t sleep?

Why do people post in AIBU parenting questions which could be answered in a forum here (below) which gets dozens of replied threads per day and plenty of “traffic”?

gees lighten up, maybe you need an early night too 😅

DinaofCloud9 · 30/04/2025 21:13

It's hot. Harder to sleep in the heat.

WorkCleanRepeat · 30/04/2025 21:17

Is his room dark enough? Mine both struggle to settle down I'm the summer months. I just let them listen to a story on Alexa in their room if they are struggling to nod off.

Erm he watched a little bit of peppa pig and it doesn't sound like it was right before bed. Do you know what a tonie box is, you know just audio books. No screens, nice and calming....it's hardly endless activity after activity 😂

Estera · 30/04/2025 21:32

Finally asleep.

To be fair he wasn’t being any trouble so I shouldn’t complain but honestly … I was ready for bed a good half hour ago!

Also I think it's the heat OP, one of mine is still awake, the one with the warmer bedroom. Or maybe its the moon or something, who knows lol x

I did think that going to nursery followed by briefly playing in his own garden, a shower and one episode of peppa pig wasn’t really akin to Disneyland but …

We went to Center Parcs a few weeks ago: now THAT was endless activity after activity! He loved it, though Smile

My 3 year old also still awake. Mainly because we're on hol and she slept in the car on the way back from our day out. On the cusp of losing it

Estera · 30/04/2025 21:37

I dread danger naps with my younger one. I hate it when they’ve dropped the nap and don’t need it but then if you go anywhere in the car after 2pm they’ll fall asleep and then have a hellish bedtime!

The screen time is a bad idea

Bananafofana · 30/04/2025 21:49

2 hour gap between screens - of any kind incl tv - and bed

Laserwho · 30/04/2025 21:51

It's hot, even my teen was complaining about it last night.

Estera · 30/04/2025 21:54

He almost always has some screen time before bed. I know it can wind some children up but it’s not really a big deal here.
