Healthy Snacks for Adults

Anyone have any good snack ideas?

I am so hungry. All the time, I’m breastfeeding an 18 month old who still feeds a few times in the day and night. I’ve also got a pre schooler to run round after.

I’m pretty good at healthy snacks for the kids, fruit, veg sticks, breadsticks, homemade baby friendly cakes, waffles, pancakes etc. I eat these too on the days when I have them at home.

But I also eat so much chocolate because it’s fast and filling but I really need to replace it with something healthier. Or atleast lower sugar.

I’m 60.3kg now at 5ft 9 which is lighter than I was before I got pregnant. I have always been slim but it feels like I am noticeably loosing weight now which was fine when I had extra weight left over from pregnancy but I don’t anymore.

I don’t eat low fat or anything like that, I try to avoid UPF as much as I can. The chocolate I do by only has a very small number of ingredients but it’s still close to 40% sugar!

When I work in the office I snack on almonds and cashew nuts but I need to eat so many of them to scratch the hungry itch, I don’t find them that filling.

My go to at the moment is fresh (or frozen) berries with Greek yogurt, hi fibre crackers (Jacobs do one) with cheese or nut butter. All good sources of protein.

faerietales · 30/04/2025 11:09

You need protein - cheese, Greek yoghurt, hard boiled eggs, peanut butter, turkey or other meats etc.

I like Quorn picnic eggs, high in protein

I make a brone broth in the instant pot and use it to make a miso soup in a mug. It’s very filling. I freeze the excess so I always have a mug sized amount handy

Babybels (the full fat ones) are nice and handy although quite expensive.

Punnet of baby cucumbers or bread sticks with cream cheese to dip in. You can also get "bagel seasoning" which is nice to sprinkle on.

Homemade flapjacks with seeds in them. Some recipes are (semi)sweetened with dates or bananas so although they're fairly high sugar, they might hit the sugar craving but with more nutrients.

Pot of greek yoghurt (full fat), drizzle of honey and some nuts/seeds. Few berries too if you like.

nuts are a healthy snack, not salted.

HungryPandaMugs · 30/04/2025 11:25

Hard boiled eggs are a good idea! We always have lots of eggs in.

We do always have yogurt in too, yogurt and granola was my go to for a while. It just feels like more effort than shovelling in a strip of chocolate.

Do you have a recipe for this? Sounds tasty

Keep up with the nuts.

If you're actively losing weight even though you're already slim , you don't need to find "filling" snacks. "Filling" is for when your hunger is driving you to gain weight.

Nuts are high in healthy fat and vitamins, which you certainly need right now. Eat a whole bunch.

Maybe yogurt or chocolate covered nuts if you need a bit of something extra. A bit of chocolate isn't bad. Especially dark chocolate.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/04/2025 11:39

Nuts. I find them really filling.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 30/04/2025 11:45

Rye bread - the pre sliced German style stuff. With avocado on. Very filling.
Please don't eat boiled eggs in the office!

Good point, looks like I need to buy more almonds then 🤣 I do find the crunch on them very satisfying.

Thanks ladies, I was just trying to work out what I could have with my lunch. You reminded me I have Greek yoghurt, nuts & honey 😋

Ophy83 · 30/04/2025 12:16

Whizz up a smoothie with banana, yoghurt, milk, dates and oats

Bananas generally are a great snack food, a useful source of potassium

A protein pot with a mix of: chicken, Edamame beans, spinach, cheese, hard boiled egg, nuts

Slices of apple with peanut butter for dunking

Strawberries with Nutella for dunking

Bake a batch of muffins or cookies - freeze and take out a couple at a time. These could be made without much added sugar if you make e.g. banana muffins with dark chocolate chips

Banana bread!

My problem is I want something a can quickly grab and get on with my day without having to prepare anything. I’ve tried things that still feel like eating snacks and have the convenience of snacks but are a bit healthier. I’ve actually tried some stuff for kids from the “organix” range and whilst very expensive it is guilt free snacking and whilst not 100% healthy but not that unhealthy either! Plus I’ve been having oat cakes, within the box there are a about 6 oat cakes wrapped up in an individual packet which is a great snack for on the go.

I would love to know other suggestions of healthy adult snacking….

Slices of cheese.

A small ham sandwich, or ham, mayo, lettice, cucumber, sometimes made with only one slice of bread often worked for me when dc were small and bfing made me ravenous. Could use a wholemeal or rye bread for more filling fibre too.
