Neighbours jet washing at 8pm

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 29/04/2025 20:25

Our NDN are currently jet washing one of their 4 cars, which obviously involves them all standing around chatting loudly.

My 8yo DD is trying to sleep. She's got a learning disability, she'll be awake during the night, and awake before 6am. The jet wash has been keeping her awake.

Now they're revving one of their audis.

Please tell me I'm not being unreasonable in thinking they're inconsiderate f idiots.

Just out of curiosity does anyone speak to their neighbours anymore ? I'm used to upstairs children getting up at 5am , their living room is above my bedroom not ideal so I put my ear buds in and roll over . In return my dogs bark at all of their takeaway deliveries sometimes uphill midnight as 1 works evenings they don't like the dogs barking bit are aware nothing I can do about it either a little give and rake tends to work if they tell me kids arnt sleeping great I will adjust so I can sleep if they have workmen setting the dogs off and I know I will stick a film on and invite my dogs to bed where they arnt aloud normally but will chill there . Have you explained to your neighbour the issue?

Anywherebuthere · 29/04/2025 21:01

8pm isn't late on a summer day.

Nothing wrong with them chatting at any time.

Why don't you go and speak to them about the revving engine if it goes on too long. They might be understanding and keep the noise down.

BountifulPantry · 29/04/2025 21:02

I don’t really think they’re being unreasonable. 8 isn’t late at all. It’s not like they’re playing music at 3 am.

Talk to the police about revving engine's as they can serve a S59 notice and take the cars if they do it again

Yeah. Involve the police before trying to talk to the neighbours first. 🙄

JandamiHash · 29/04/2025 21:09

YABVU. 8pm isn’t late and to be blunt the world doesn’t revolve round you.

Howling at the suggestion that the police will cease their car for revving an engine 😂

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 29/04/2025 21:17

I waited until 8:30 and then politely asked them if they could stop as it was keeping my daughter awake. The wife seemed happy with this, the guy nodded his approval and finished cleaning his wheels which is fine, I wouldn't expect them to stop immediately.

They definitely know we have kids and that one of them is disabled, and of course we talk to them generally! Just the guy can be a bit inconsiderate and has form for things like this, so it does annoy me when it happens as it's building on past annoyances.

The jet wash is super loud in my defence, similar to any other power tool. I wouldn't mind a quiet hose pipe etc. We have a neighbour opposite who's a builder and uses power tools in his garage, but he's super considerate about the times he uses it.

No idea why I might be in Slough 🤣 never been there!

In response to a few posters, I don't expect the world to revolve around me, but he's been at home all day and is only cleaning the car at 8pm! So it's not like he's only just got back from work.

8pm isn't late. It was nice of them to stop when you asked. However, with a child who is up before 6am I'd be careful how much you complain about noise...even general chat will travel.

AnonWho23 · 29/04/2025 21:31

I can understand that it may be frustrating for you but they are not doing anything wrong. It's 8 o'clock not 11 o'clock.

HuffleMyPuffle · 29/04/2025 21:35

8pm isn't late and with the sun, he might have waited until the shade because the sun will leave steaks

Your DD is up at 6am, I hope she doesn't make a single noise...

FumingTRex · 29/04/2025 21:40

I dont think you can expect people to creep around at 8pm. Could you use white noise to hide the noise?

JorgyPorgy · 29/04/2025 21:41

I don’t think YABU OP. I personally think it’s inconsiderate to loiter in the street talking loudly disturbing neighbours. Revving engine sounds unnecessary noise. Have a polite word with them if it’s a regular thing

icelolly12 · 29/04/2025 21:43

If it was 10pm I could see your point. It's not even dark at 8pm.

As if the police don't have enough to deal with. Some posters live in an alternate Universe! Heard it all now.

Fundays12 · 29/04/2025 21:46

Sorry I think your being unreasonable. I have a 13 year old with a disability who has sleep issues and an 8 year old with a medical condition which can cause him sleep issues. I don't expect my neighbours to go silent at 8 pm. If it was 10 pm on a school night i would be annoyed but at 8 p m kids are still out playing, people are chatting and neighbours who work in the day are doing jobs like jet washing cars.

So you asked them to stop....and they did despite it only being 830?
What else do you want?!

Well yes... if 8pm is too late for noise, surely anything before 8am is too early?

Whateveritsallmadnow · 29/04/2025 21:49

Really @Sofiewoo

icelolly12 · 29/04/2025 21:51

Sorry OP but you're the rude unreasonable one expecting silence in the street at 8pm which is still broad daylight. Plus it's on one of the nicest sunniest days of the year so of course people are going to be outdoors enjoying it and getting their jobs done.

Rklap · 29/04/2025 21:58

Difficult. I would say the noise and time is normal and acceptable (aside from the engine revving which is stupid).

justasking111 · 29/04/2025 22:03

While this weather lasts it's going to be noiser in the evenings as people drift outdoors.

TheSilentSister · 29/04/2025 22:11

I think you're being v unreasonable OP. It's 8.30pm. You can not expect neighbours to stop doing stuff because your DC has gone to bed.
Live and let live.

caringcarer · 30/04/2025 02:40

I don't think 8pm is late to wash a car. Its still daylight. I thought you had to be quieter after 10pm. I wonder if your DD wakes them up if she is up in the night and up again before 6am?

caringcarer · 30/04/2025 02:44

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 29/04/2025 21:18

He doesn't have to plan his day around your DC. He can wash his car whenever he likes up to 10pm. After that there are noise restrictions.

JellyNellyKat · 30/04/2025 02:57

How early does your kid go outside and play in the summer ? 6.30/7am? I think you can cope with jetwashing at 8pm give and take isn’t it?
