Okay, so she's 4, I'm being an over-protective mother, but really. I took her and dd and the dts to a play-centre place today as her and dd hardly see each other now they are both at school - anyway, we get there and neice sees a girl from her school and spends the entire 2 hours with her, ignoring my dd, who is much smaller than them and couldn't climb to the top with them or even catch them up.

I felt so sorry for her, she was so excited this morning that her cousin was coming over and she spent most of the time trailing round looking for her.

That's it realy. They're just kids, but my Momma Bear side really felt for dd.

It is too bad, but I think that 4 is very, very young to expect a child to feel responsible in the way you wanted her to be (as I guess you already know), especially if the younger child is not a sibling. At that age the child that can keep up is the most entertaining (one day it will be your dd ignoring someone elses younger child to play with a peer, and I am sure you will judge it differently)

But do understand the Momma Bear thing though - it plays havoc with reason

She is only 4 and it's what kids do but I do know how you feel, mine have often been treated like this by thier slightly older cousins when the other cousins closer to their own age group arrive and they are old enough to be more considerate so are their mums!

Thank you. It's easier to look at it sensibly when other people tell you so. I know 4 is very young and I was expecting a lot when i think about it, just can't get dd's sad little face out of my mind.

Think I will creep into her room and give her a little hug now
