I really can't be arsed! She is 12 and she wants salad for tea. Maybe I could get her to make me some, while she's at it!

Oh I love this old kid thing!

Yes. You should make the meal. But you can expect her to clear away, stack dishwasher etc if you like.

MaureenMLove · 17/05/2008 19:31

Excellent. I'll just tell her the good news! ........

Oh, she wasn't too bothered! Although, she's on MSN atm, so possibly she just agreed with me, to shut me up!

Oh Elasticwoman! Don't be a spoil sport! She's got to make a salad in Food Tech within the next few weeks, so strictly speaking, I'm helping her with her school work!

I made a lot of meals at 12. YANBU.

LookattheLottie · 17/05/2008 19:37

She's 12 not 2, making a salad isn't hard lol. YANBU. If it was a compicated hot meal that required ovens and other appliances then yes, you should certainly help. But salad's easy and wont hurt her. And if she's doing her own, no harm in making some extra.....

Bless her! I have raised a good'un, if I say so myself! Its no boring salad she's making. She's grating carrot and cutting rings of pepper! any minute now, she'll complain there's no baby spinach or balsamic vinegar!

My ds who is 8 cooks for the whole family of six frequently, as does nmy nine year old.

A little
bitn of training pays off in spades.

You put your feet up girl. Good job.

Oh I see, posh salads eh? I know your sort!

MaureenMLove · 17/05/2008 19:40

Actually, her axact words to me were, 'can I have salad for tea mummy, because I've eaten so much rubbish all day!' (She's had a day in front of the TV with popcorn, chocolate brownies and coke!)

Lol, there was me thinking you had raisied a rare breed of teenager MML, just like the rest of them after all

MaureenMLove · 17/05/2008 19:46

I am very proud actually. I've just told her too. Proud that she did it herself and proud that she wanted salad. We eat a whole load of 'bad' stuff, we even like a Greggs sausage roll or too (although Fruitshoots are a step too far for us!) but she clearly has the right messages coming through - everything in moderation! Happy mummy!

There you are, Maureen, you didn't need my permission anyway! I didn't know she had offered and was having to make it for school anyway. My dd of similar age likes to make shortbread and leaves floury mess everywhere when she does it....

scanner · 17/05/2008 22:16

She sounds lovely. DD1 has recently learnt to make a cup of tea, I can't tell you how lovely that is.

KelaH · 17/05/2008 23:05

GOd, I cooked all my own meals at 12 (was the only way my mum would let me go veggie!)
