Worried about blood cancer

emiiorose · 24/04/2025 00:49

Since October last year I have had unexplained bruising on my legs, I am really starting to worry about blood cancer.

I had a blood test done at the end of October with normal blood test results.

January - normal blood test results which included nuclear abs, complement, ANCS screen, serum c reactive protein level, and immunoglobulin.

I had the most recent blood test last week with all normal blood test results which covered;
Serum Feritin
Liver Function
Bone profile
Urea and electrolytes
Blood glucose level
Serum TSH
Full blood count
HbA1C

In addition to that my urine was also tested and had high levels of white blood cells but no specific bacteria was detected.

I have had acid reflux, abdomen pain, and rib pain since last May.
I had an ultrasound in September to check for gallstones which was normal.

I am now waiting to have an endoscopy and I have been referred to a Haematologist for additional tests.

Would any of those blood tests pick up blood cancer?

I am extremely worried, has anyone been through this?
Thanks in advance x

Pretty certain that that blood panel would pick up anything seriously awry. What tests are you expecting from the hematologist? Aside from a bit of bruising you don't appear to have any other signs or symptoms. However, you do sound extremely anxious.

If you had blood cancer your blood count would be all over the place.

hopeishere · 24/04/2025 07:56

In our experience we got a panicky call from the GP at 7.30pm saying the blood tests were all over the show and would need more tests.

Nameychangington · 24/04/2025 07:59

Yes a blood test would show if you had blood cancer, that's how they find blood cancer. So you haven't got blood cancer and should probably get help with your health anxiety.

I have blood cancer.

Please speak with your GP about your fears, and ask her/him for an explanation of the tests you are having and why the haematologist referral has been made. Posting here isn't going to help, to be honest.

I have a blood cancer. A full blood count will clearly show an anomaly which your GP will have alerted you to. Speak to your GP about your concerns

@RobertaSlackIm really sorry to hear this, thank you for your reassuring message, wishing you the best in your recovery.

My private GP service through work requested the referral, all though did say it was to rule out any clotting disorders and for my own peace of my mind.

You haven't got blood cancer.

I'm just into remission from blood cancer, OP. Call your GP today and find out on what basis they've referred you to Haematology. Do you have any other symptoms, like night sweats, tiredness or a cough?

I know this won't sound all that comforting but if it is a blood cancer, they are usually very treatable. I've gone from stage 4, seriously ill with Hodgkin's Lymphoma to remission in less than 6 months. Wishing you luck

WhiteJeans7 · 24/04/2025 10:11

Also- my blood cancer wasn't picked up from blood tests. CT scan, PET scan and biopsies were how my cancer was diagnosed and staged.

emiiorose · 24/04/2025 13:36

@WhiteJeans7Very sorry to hear this and I hope you well, excellent that your in remission, thank you for replying.

I don’t have night sweats, or tiredness but I do have a cough which I have had since I had Covid in 2022, it comes and goes.

The GP was adamant that if I had blood cancer the immunoglobulin blood test would of detected this.

Hopefully the Haematologist will be able to rule/ diagnose anything.
I am booked in for some clotting tests next week.
