Is all this reflex and nerve stuff bollocks?

As you'll guess from my username I have a kid with adhd, and because of this I follow quite a lot of relevant accounts on Instagram to pick up useful information. I like science-backed info and stuff that's relatable and useful.

The algorithm has recently been throwing up accounts which seem to show you how to test for and respond to different unresolved reflexes - retained primitive reflexes, problems with the vestibular system, I even got a post about how I need to calm my dog's vagus nerve to sort out reactivity the other day.

We've had an OT assessment and rhat kind of makes sense to me, but also this stuff on social media seems like some kind of 'quick fix' - if my kid makes snow angels on the carpet we'll fix his retained reflexes and he won't have such acute adhd symptoms??

I wondered what other parents or people in the know think about it? Is it just buzzwords or is it scientifically proven to work?

YABU - this is the latest thinking on neurodiversity and it can make a big difference
YANBU - this is the latest gimmick for desperate parents and should be taken with a pinch of salt

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Gimmick. Look up ‘Brain Gym’ which was advertised using very similar justifications. Loads of schools were doing it about twenty years ago and now none of them do. Nice idea and all that, but no actual proof that it helped anyone in the way it promised. However, the people selling Brain Gym materials did very nicely out of it, and the people putting up videos about retained reflexes are getting the clicks they want.

No idea about ADHD, but physio for RTP (lots of exercises to cross the mid-line, cross pattern crawling etc) hugely helped my DS when he was younger and was dyspraxic.

Thanks both. I think the problem is that it does align with OT advice, which is generally fairly solid, but it seems too quick fix to me! The Brain Gym stuff was interesting- hadn't heard of it but looks like it was pretty debunked!
