To ask for an extension for Dds music GCSE would greatly appreciate anyone with any knowledge/experience of GCSE extensions.

Dd is starting her GCSEs this week. She has a 10 hour art exam over the next 2 days and her Spanish speaking exam Monday. Shes been pulled in today by her music teacher to say her performance pieces are collectively 11 seconds short (she recorded these with 3 music staff present one of which was actively recording them with her around 3 months ago) and they've waited until today to tell her they're 11 seconds short and she will have to learn and perform another grade 3 piece by Friday or Monday at the latest. She has so much on her plate revising for her Spanish and other subjects and shes completely overwhelmed. Her piano teacher thinks its completely unachievable to learn and record a piece in that time and that we should see if she would be allowed an extension but I have no idea how that would work.
Any advice would really be greatly appreciated.

I should mention that they've said if she doesn't do this she will drop an entire grade as it will cost her at least 8 marks.

Dud she do all the repeats in the pieces she did?

very easy to add in 11 seconds in pieces by putting in a repeat or even relaxing the tempo a bit if a longer piece.

if learning a new piece is not easily achieved and she doesn’t have existing repertoire to hand - re-recording her longest piece taking it a tiny bit slower will probably make up those crucial seconds.

does it have a cadenza? If so, a few extra flourishes could easily add in a few extra seconds.

I'm really sorry to hear that. That's bonkers. Does it matter if she drops a grade? I think I would take the hit, but it depends whether it matters to her.

If she has grade 5 music theory and performance then that trumps GCSE anyway.

She has already repeated her longest piece twice and the other students aren't available to re record her ensemble piece so im not sure any of those would be an option and her longer piece was almost note perfect so it would be a shame if she recorded again and didnt manage to get the same results but that may be her only option if there is an option to repeat 3 times.

She is going to a music college and wants to go on to do a music degree so although she does have grade 5 music Theory it would be a shame for her not to get the grades shes expecting. Just really gutted for her as shes worked so so hard.
