Just charge the bloody blood pressure machines (hospital)

In hospital the moment been in for coming up a few weeks. The staff on the ward are lovely but the one huge bug bare is the blood pressure machines.

they never seem to change them and they are just left beeping in the corridor. They have just come round to take obs now at 5.45 am and the machine is beeping because it needs charging and waking everyone up. It’s same at night at about 11

i actually asked the nurses to plug he one in in the corridor yesterday as I had a migraine and it was like torture.

just seems a really easy thing to do that can just make a hospital stay a bit nicer x

YANBU to ask them and they ANBU to be too busy to take few minutes out to charge the machine

GildedRage · 23/04/2025 06:22

The batteries eventually can’t “hold” the charge despite being plugged in. Even when virtually useless (only good for 3-4 patients) it’s better than no blood pressure machine. Because if you send it to biomed for a new battery it’s 2-4 months before you see that machine again.

Dee03 · 23/04/2025 06:23

I always plug in the machines as soon as I’ve finished with them, I cannot tolerate the beeping! If I hear a machine beep just once I will hunt it down and plug it in 😂

violetqueen6 · 23/04/2025 06:25

I would definitely bring this to the attention of pals
Is there something that makes charging difficult?
Not enough plug sockets, sockets in difficult position?
I'm so sorry you're in hospital for such a long time.
Hope you can get out soon 🌼💐🌸🌹

Conistonhawks · 23/04/2025 06:25

I think it’s the ones that are left beeping in the corridor that annoy me the most

Ask to speak to head nurse. Explain nicely the issue and impact. If no luck, complaint to PALS.

Butterflyarms · 23/04/2025 07:03

Have been there with Sats monitors where they didn't adjust the alarm range. Finally unplugged it and explained when they came running what they issue was.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 23/04/2025 07:43

Could be worse. Saw my mum the other day in hospital. On oxygen and machine measuring stats etc started bleeping. I told nurses that said low battery less than 30 minutes left. no one came to change it. I realised machine was now dead, told them - they hadn’t actually plugged the sodding thing in to start with. So if I wasn’t there with my mum how long until they noticed it wasn’t working…..

When my son did his first night shift as a junior doctor he found his access card did not allow him onto some of the wards he was covering. Its chaos in hospitals at the moment.

DenholmElliot11 · 23/04/2025 08:46

Use your words and go and speak to a staff member (nicely though, yeah?) 😊

LuluDelulu · 23/04/2025 08:48

YANBU. There seems to be little regard for the healing power of sleep by hospital staff.

LuluDelulu · 23/04/2025 08:51

Sorry I mean by SOME hospital staff.

Whattodowiththesewindows · 23/04/2025 08:51

@DenholmElliot11 easy for you to say ,the OP has been in hospital for several weeks so it's safe to assume that they are pretty unwell.
It's one thing to post on a forum and another "to go and" do anything .
And if you read their post ,they have "used their words" and asked for one to be plugged in .

Once they start bleeping you can’t ignore them!! It’s so loud.

This has a horrible ring of truth .
But if it's the case here ,perhaps they could explain this to the patients ?

When i was in with ds1 it was the radio on all the bloody time ..i asked the staff please dont turn it on at 6, i was up all night breastfeeding and desperate for sleep...she told me to stick a pillow over my head...so mysteriously the extension cable they needed to play it disappeared....i wound it up on the underside of my bed.....the peace and quiet was wonderful

This drives me mad. Ours are set with a lower heart rate alarm at 100. (Paediatric) I turn them all down to 55!

Conistonhawks · 23/04/2025 09:46

Just having a bad morning. Just want to sleep without being woken before 6.
managed to drop off again to have the cleaner barge into my room to tell me she would be cleaning my room in about an hour. I really do not need to be given warning.
