Holiday apartment with security camera on the door

Just realised that our hosts have installed a security camera above the door of our apartment and I feel violated - it’s creepy. They keep emailing us promoting their restaurant which I feel is harassment - I didn’t give them permission to use my personal information this way. AIBU?

I don’t think we’re necessarily very trusting, we just don’t stand outside a holiday rental discussing state secrets.

It’s not trusting, it’s that I simply wouldn’t have private conversations in public hallways. Entire normal thing to have in air bnbs and in a lot of even residential places now.

Alongside this, you claiming it’s harassment they’ve emailed you about their restaurant, and letting them know you’re going to put all this in the review I’m sure you totally don’t want any money back from them.

It’s not the images it’s the voice recording - someone who already has quite s bit of info on us from registering to stay at their property, I’d have not spoken at the door had I known. You guys are very trusting.

Tbh, camera or not, I wouldn't recommend discussing private business in public...

Can honestly say I don't do that outside my own front door - and I own the camera! Sadly never heard anyone else's juicy secrets through it either.

No - we just noticed it this evening - second night - we have nothing to hide but I am not happy with the invasion of privacy

It is not an invasion of your privacy.

This!!

The thing is if you were in a hotel you’d also have cameras there wouldn’t you? It wouldn’t bother me because I don’t think people are going to review footage unless there’s a problem

If this is your worry you should stand outside and have a conversation giving all fake details and leading them off track completely. Really mess up their plans 👀

It wouldn’t bother me. Cameras are recording us everywhere. I generally don’t walk around spouting out my credit card details loudly in public. And I wouldn’t be coming or going naked.

My guess is that it’s much more for staff, like cleaning staff, than for you. They can know when cleaning is complete for the next guest and they can know they are getting the full 3 hour clean they are paying for.

TBF OP your subsequent posts sound like you are pretty anti-cameras anyway, so it might be something you want to check before booking future holiday homes etc?
