I totally understand that feeling when you've had way more length off than you intended!

I tend to stick to small scrunchy style bobbles now which are much better for your hair.

For frizz the best thing I had done was Keretin treatment in a salon, it is expensive though and your hair stinks of sulphur for a week or two!

ThatGladTiger · 22/04/2025 12:46

another convert to keratin! Not being dramatic but it’s changed my life! From someone with very frizzy hair!

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 22/04/2025 12:51

I'm not much use as i straighten my frizz but on a lower heat.
I use silk hair bobbles and sleep on a silk pillowcase, that's really helped reduce breakage. I also don't rub my hair dry, hold in a towel and squeeze, sexy hair seal the deal to held smooth and money mist leave in conditioner by colour wow to soften.

qandatime · 22/04/2025 12:59

My hair was really thin and much shorter at the sides due to years of bleaching and straightening. It hadn’t grown in years and then last year I had a keratin treatment at the hairdresser and it has transformed my hair, it has grown from practically up by ears to shoulder length since October. It’s not cheap but really helps.

Starling7 · 22/04/2025 13:04

I bleached my hair 10 times in a row to get it very light. All I use is the Aussie leave in conditioner and it's amazing. It's long, and really pretty good condition

Fraaances · 22/04/2025 13:06

My hair has never been better since I ditched elastic of all kinds. Check out Abbey Yung on YouTube for pretty common sense (and flexible) ideas on how to manage your hair. She’s a trichologist, btw. She says the most important things to do are to avoid tangles, tight hair styles and heat damage. I live in Australia so I don’t use the recommended hair products (expensive and hard to get, if not impossible.) I use Japanese shampoo, conditioner & a mask once a week. I use a leave-in conditioner that is also a heat protectant. I treat my hair gently, use a tangle teezer. Style with claw clips, etc.

KimberleyClark · 22/04/2025 14:10

I use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner. Sodium laureth sulphate, a lathering agent present in most shampoos, is drying and strips colour.

What is this please? How much does it cost? And what’s it like/ what does it involve please

I always have a full head of highlights and my hair has been in brilliant condition since I started using V05 heat protectant. Go back to basics. Get a decent shampoo and conditioner, heat sprays and stop using tight bobbles.

I would stay away from Keratin treatments. I saw a news story where a woman had her hair melted off using that.

socks1107 · 22/04/2025 14:21

I use an at home leave in keratin daily, a cotton wrap for drying and turned down all heat

Katemax82 · 22/04/2025 14:22

I always use scrunchies yo put my hair up they're less tight

SparklyDenimHiker · 22/04/2025 14:24

You need the real silk mini hair scrunchies.

It cost me £160. It's basically a treatment that gets coated on to your hair, they blow dry it smooth and straighten it. You have to not wash it for around 3 days and not tie it up during that time. It really stinks during this time so it's best to have it done when you can stay home as much as possible! It's lasted a good year on mine but they only promise it'll last around 6 months. Its really worked for me. Have a look on youtube/tik tock and you'll find lots of videos.

HugelyExpensiveCrystalDuck · 22/04/2025 18:07

I put coconut oil (from supermarkets, I get mine at Aldi) in my hair once a week. I put one of those towel hats on and sleep in it.

I saw some silk scrunchies in New Look at the weekend.

Seconding the Abbey Yung recommendation.

It's leave in conditioner - you spray it in after you wash your hair and it's still damp, and you leave it in. My hair is frizzy without it, but it makes my hair quite silky ❤️

I use a small claw clip to pin my hair up at night. It's gentler on my hair than even a scrunchie and doesn't get in the way of the pillow.
I also use silk pillowcases - some people swear by bonnets but I've never been able to get them to stay on!

Always be careful tying your hair tightly, it can cause damage. As well as conditioning advice you've had, look at hair supplements or a good multi vitamin - even better, review what you're eating and adapt your diet.

Strangeworldtoday · 22/04/2025 23:59

I have thick frizzy hair which I straighten, I actually cut old tights up for hair ties. If a pair ladders then i keep them and cut bands off the legs for hair ties. They are really soft on my hair, and really good hold on the hair too.
I use the frizzease syrum too which helps with condition

ThinWomansBrain · 23/04/2025 00:00

I had my hair straightened with keratin for several years - expensive, and then went to a salon where thy did it wrong and burnt my hair.

took ages to grow out the damaged hair - then I started embracing the curl. (and bits of curly girl method)
Cantu products are great for combating frizz, have been using mostly that for the last 7-8 years, but I am a bit of a product junkie, and love trying new things, most recently Curlsmith products - expensive, but I picked some up in TK Maxx.

Occasionally if it's veering towards frizz rather than curl, I get it permed - probably every 18 moths to two years. Because of the underlying tendency to curl, perms last a long time.

Also, find a hairdresser that is good with curly hair - current one is brilliant, been using him for around 7 years, but have had some dire 'in between' hairdressers.

I don't wear mine tied back often, but if I do, I use those silky scrunchy type things.

Having transformed my hair in a year due to bleaching the shite out of it for 20 years, I would recommend...

Good, quality shampoo and conditioner - I really rate Redken Soft range.
Once a week do a hair oiling session before you wash to stimulate the scalp for growth and nourish the hair, I rate Fable and Mane Holi Roots
Taking multivitamins has really boosted my hair health as well as upping water intake
Reduce heat styling to minimal times a week
Heat protection everytime. Colour Wow Dreamcoat is great for wet hair. Use an aerosol/dry heat protector if you're styling dry hair.
I've never done Keratin but everyone who has tried it raves about it.

I know a lot of people like bond building products and masks like Olaplex and K18 but they didn't really work for me. And they're mega bucks.

Follow people like thisgirldoeshair on TikTok who give loads of great advice about all different hair types and best products.

I could talk about hair all day long.

Fraaances · 23/04/2025 05:09

I was told that keratin treatments only work on thick, porous hair. Mine is neither.
I just remembered that the Blowout Professor on YouTube was okay too, but really annoying. I find Abbey Yung’s advice solid and more comprehensive.
